AQUATIC TREATMENT AT BANTAM LAKE TODAY Aug 27, 2026

Selected areas of Bantam Lake will be chemically treated with copper sulfate to manage nuisance cyanobacteria (blue-green algae). The treatment is scheduled for Thursday, August 27th. Use of the lake water within and for a distance of 500-feet beyond the treatment areas (shown below) will be restricted for swimming on the day of treatment only. There are no restrictions on boating or fishing and the CT DEEP & Town boat ramps will remain open. Prior to treatment, the lake shoreline will be posted with signs showing the treatment areas and applicable water use restrictions in accordance with DEEP requirements.

This chemical treatment at Bantam Lake is being performed, pursuant to a permit from CT DEEP. The chemical treatment is but one part of a comprehensive watershed assessment and in-lake management program that is well underway. The project’s organizers and proponents include the Bantam Lake Protective Association, the Bantam Lake Authority, the Towns of Morris and Litchfield, and the White Memorial Foundation. SOLitude Lake Management of Shrewsbury, MA, is the CT licensed company performing the chemical treatment and is a consultant to the Bantam Lake Protective Association.

Eversource Infrastructure Project Update

A quick update for Litchfield residents regarding Eversource’s ongoing reliability infrastructure replacement project between Litchfield and Goshen.

The project includes the installation of new wooden poles and wires along the roadway, as well as new steel poles and wires within the existing right-of-way.

🚧 Road Work:
One crew has been working along the roadway, beginning on Constitution Way in Litchfield and continuing toward the substation south of Woodridge Lake in Goshen. Eversource has completed the work on the southern side of Milton Road in Litchfield and has now begun work on the northern section in Goshen along Beach Street.

🚧 Right-of-Way Work:
A second crew has begun work within the right-of-way. Supreme Industries, a subcontractor to Asplundh, Eversource’s contractor for the project, has started installing temporary matting near 68 Beach Street in preparation for the installation of the new steel poles and wires.

The right-of-way work is currently anticipated to be completed before October 1 on the Litchfield side and before November 1 on the Goshen side.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as this important infrastructure and reliability project moves forward. Please use caution around work areas and crews.
