Visit our website for tour dates and times. Created in 1980 as a forever home for displaced wolves and wolfdogs, Wolf Sanctuary of PA sanctuary has grown into an educational facility. The Wolves of Speedwell hold a unique position as Ambassadors to the wild. It has been said that “the best wolf habitat resides in the human heart.” Perhaps it is also that the best habitat for our own wildness resid

es in the heart of the Wolf. Wolf Sanctuary of PA currently provides food, shelter and veterinary care for gray wolves and wolfdogs. With no government or corporate assistance, it is only, by your continued support and interest do the Wolves thrive.

Our sweet girl Kaya celebrates 9 years at the sanctuary this month. This anniversary comes on the heels of heartbreak as we mourn the loss of Kaya's lifelong packmate, Luna Mishka, who also would have celebrated her 9th anniversary this month. Luna's health had been declining for some time. She had been doing well on medications to mitigate her symptoms for awhile, however earlier this month she took a turn for the worse. With great sadness, we made the difficult decision to say goodbye to our dear Luna.

Kaya and Luna arrived together 9 years ago. While they had experienced abuse and neglect in their past, their lives at the sanctuary were filled with joy and love together. Kaya is still mourning the loss of her best friend, and we will continue to give her lots of love during this difficult time. Luna will always be in our hearts ♥

WOLF FACT WEDNESDAY. Wolves have many seasonal adaptations that help them to adjust to each season. In addition to shedding their undercoat to keep cool, their coat color can change slightly seasonally to help them camouflage in the foliage and to aid in temperature regulation. Did you know this?

WOLF FACT WEDNESDAY: Open wide! Wolves have 42 teeth that vary in shape and size depending on their function. Their canines are long and pointy, helping them to tear their food while their back teeth called carnassials help with grinding and crunching bones. Wolves are carnivores so they eat mostly meat. Did you know this?

The wolves are over this heat - Little Girl is dreaming of a cool winter wind. Though the wolves have shed out their thick undercoats to help keep them cool in the summer, the heat and humidity this year has been extra tough. We do our best to keep them cool with fresh cool water, plenty of shade, ponds to splash in, and ice treats.
