At Wolf Sanctuary of PA, we use wolf behavior to help care for our furry friends. Wolves engage in an activity called scent masking where they roll in strong-smelling scents in their environment. We use this to our advantage for part of their care. In the summer, one of the pests we work to control are biting black flies that try to nibble at the tips of the wolves’ ears. We use a citronella spray to rub on their ears to keep the flies off but some wolves are shy and prefer not to be touched. Thanks to scent masking, we are able to spray the citronella mixture on the leaves and the wolves roll in it to keep the flies off! Featured in this video are Vada, Maka, Fig, and Altyn showing us their break dancing moves.
