Vision Loss Resources helps older adults across the Twin Cities adapt to vision loss and maintain independence. Since receiving an Age-Friendly Minnesota grant in 2023, Vision Loss Resources has reached more than 3,000 older Minnesotans through community support groups, presentations, and technology training. The grant has allowed the organization to sustain its Community Services Program, which provides education on vision loss, practical strategies for daily living and connections to additional resources.

“Vision loss is a grief journey,” said Renee Waclaw, Community Specialist at Vision Loss Resources. “People don’t always talk about it, but these groups help them process what they’re going through.”

Waclaw leads presentations at senior centers and assisted living communities, where participants learn simple adjustments, such as improving lighting and reducing glare, that can make daily tasks easier. She also facilitates 15 support groups across the Twin Cities, offering a space for individuals to share experiences and build connections.

Without the grant, Waclaw said, the program would not exist in its current form.

Visit the Vision Loss Resources website for more information on their services and community events.
