Need a dopamine boost to get you through the last few hours before Memorial Day weekend? Watch these cute wood ducklings hop out of a box made by District staff and enjoy paddling on Gervais Creek for the first time! Wood ducks were once nearly extinct due to habitat loss, but wood duck boxes and other conservation efforts helped bring their numbers back. Wood duck boxes are relatively easy to make and can ensure repeated nesting near your home.

Not all algae are the same! Filamentous algae is a natural part of healthy waterways, forming stringy mats that provide food and habitat for aquatic life. Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria), on the other hand, can produce harmful toxins that pose risks to people, pets, and wildlife. Knowing the difference helps keep you and our waters safe.

Join our Planting for Clean Water Workshop with Blue Thumb on Thursday, May 7 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm in Maplewood. 💧🌱

Learn how every yard can have an impact on improving water quality. Designers from Metro Blooms Design+Build will walk through the steps of assessing your yard, landscaping with native plants, installing a rain barrel, siting a rain garden and more. You’ll then have the chance to meet with landscape designers and master gardeners to discuss your project ideas!

This workshop is hosted by the Vadnais Lake Area Water Management Organization and Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District. Registration is free for residents of either watershed! Learn more and secure your spot at bluethumb.org/events or the link in our bio.
