We are honored to share that our 250th Anniversary of America flag (1776–2026) is now hanging proudly at the 9/11 Memorial at the corner of American Dr and Patriot Dr. in Little Chute.

This special flag represents our nation’s history, service, and sacrifice, and we are proud to display it as we continue serving the Village of Little Chute and our community with pride.

It is truly an honor to see it flying as a symbol of freedom and the generations who have protected it.

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, we ask everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday and remember those who gave everything for our freedom.

From all of us at the Little Chute Fire Department, thank you to our fallen heroes and the families who continue to carry their legacy.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Derek VD on his retirement from LCFD.

Derek will be remembered most for the connections he built and the stories that came with them—whether it was on a call, around the station table, or at the softball diamond. He helped create the kind of camaraderie that makes this something more than just answering the calls.

The relationships he maintained with both active members and retirees truly stand out. Derek always made the effort to keep people connected including checking in to making sure no one missed retiree night. Being able to serve alongside his father and two uncles made his time here even more meaningful and speaks to the strong family tradition within the department.

His years with the Little Chute Fire Department leave behind lasting memories, strong friendships, and a positive impact that wont be forgotten. Those are the things that stay with you long after the gear is hung up.

Congratulations, Derek!

The crew of 9321 responded to the report of an unconscious male on a bus at the Valley Transit Center. The patient was quickly revived from a drug overdose, regained consciousness, and walked off the bus. The situation soon escalated after the patient refused transport to the hospital. He pulled a handgun from his pocket and began shooting. Driver Engineer Mitch Lundgaard was struck in the chest. Police officers on scene exchanged gunfire with the suspect, killing him. Despite the heroic best efforts of his crew, Gold Cross paramedics, and the emergency room staff at ThedaCare Hospital to save Driver Engineer Lundgaard, he passed away. Mitch is survived by his wife and their three young sons. He was 36 years old.
