Yes we fought in the American civil war, Col. Benavides took a group of Texicans mostly Spanish speaking men to the civil war from Texas. They were also responsible for taking beef to feed the confederacy. No one talks about that.

Retired Major General Angela “Angie” Salinas was born in Alice, TX on December 6, 1953.

A recipient of the Defense Superior Services Medal, she retired from the United States Marine Corps. She was the first woman to command a Marine Corps Recruit Depot, and the first Hispanic woman to become a general in the Marines.

Salinas was the youngest of five children to native Texans. Her ancestors once owned a Spanish Land Grant, and were among the first civilian settlers in Texas.
