Today at 15:21 hours, The Fire Department was dispatched to 110 Bergen Turnpike for an activated fire alarm. Upon arrival, Battalion Chief 302 was met with a heavy smoke condition pushing from the rear of the complex. Engine 306 arrived first due and stretched an 1 3/4 attack line into the trash compactor room and extinguished an interior dumpster fire. Fire was knocked within minutes of arrival and kept from extending upwards towards residential apartments. Mutual aid was brought in from Hackensack, Hasbrouck Heights and South Hackensack as a precaution. Once the scene was deemed safe, all units were returned within an hour.

The Little Ferry Hose Company is an all volunteer company and is always in need of new members. Please consider becoming a volunteer today and give back to our wonderful town. Please send us a message if you are interested in learning more.

Tonight, members of the Hose Company conducted Engine Company drills consisting of hose deployment, importance of the back up man role and utilizing ropes to hoist a line into a building. Training in these scenarios will help our newer members understand their roles and duties on the fire ground, as well as teach them ways to overcome obstacles such as long stretches, and utilize rope operations to get a handline in place above the first floor.

This morning, members from Hose Company #1 participated in the inaugural 9/11 Stair Climb at the MetLife stadium to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice on that horrific day. Today, we climbed for

• Firefighter Paul J. Gill - Engine 54
• Lieutenant Vincent E. Giammona - Ladder 5
• Firefighter James A. Giberson - Ladder 35
• Firefighter Denis P. Germain - Ladder 2

We will NEVER FORGET the sacrifices these men made, along with all those who gave their life.

Tonight, members of the department conducted a drill on firefighter survival. “Smooth Bump Bump to the Pump”, a key term to remember when identifying a coupling to find your way out of a building in an emergency evacuation with zero visibility. Excellent job by all participating members.
