Little Hocking Fire and Rescue

Little Hocking Fire and Rescue Little Hocking Fire & Rescue Inc. With equipment acquired from area fire departments the idea became a reality.

In July 1963, a group of men from Little Hocking, Ohio decided to pursue the organizing of a fire protection service to Belpre and Decatur townships. The first station was owned by an area businessman and was a temporary home before a permanent station could be completed in 1966. Since then, an addition to the station was added and in 1983, emergency medical service was started. LHVFD currently pr

Every day we have riders travelling on State Route 555 (The Triple Nickel) on motorcycles, convertibles, and bicycles. Riders stop by the fire station at mile 0. Yesterday, we had some visitors who were riding the Triple Nickel stop by for some Triple Nickel shirts and stickers. The group was from Connecticut, Rhode Island and California. We love getting to chat with folks riding through the area.

We wanted to give an update on our brush truck build we started 2 years ago. If you remember, we purchased the Stewart and Stevenson M1078 from Fayette Township Fire Department in South Point, Ohio. It had originally been a military vehicle and was partially converted to a fire vehicle by the FTVFD. It had sat outside after the conversion stalled.

We chose this type of vehicle because of ground clearance issues we have had with our F-series brush truck in former pulpwood forests where stumps have been left on hundreds of acres. This vehicle has enough ground clearance to get over these obstructions. Newer versions of this type of vehicle can no longer be acquired due to later models being armored and not available for civilian use.

We are nearly finished with wiring and mounting of equipment (New CET diesel pump, work boxes, lights/siren). We will be starting on the stainless steel plumbing this week. All of the firefighting equipment buildout thus far has been done by our own personnel.

We also received a grant from the Ohio Fire Marshall's office for new hose, Indian Packs and a remote monitor for this truck.

It really is coming together nicely and we are hoping to have it in service very soon. We want to thank corporate sponsors that have made this possible and will release a full list once the project is complete.
