Bell County Sheriff's Office patrol and school resource divisions assisted with coordination and search efforts,

Coryell County Sheriffs Office assisted with two tracking K9s and their handlers,

Department of Public Safety - assisted with DPS Troopers searching the area,

Little River-Academy Volunteer Fire Dept. assisted with equipment and manpower,

Temple Police Department assisted with two drone operators and their drones,

And to all of the community,

We are aware that power is out in town, crews are already in town working on restoring power.

Folks we understand everyone wants to get home and stay warm with the current weather, but please do so safely. This 18 wheeler was stopped for 72mph in a 55mph near the high school. Plan to take some extra time for travel with these weather conditions.

Our hearts are with Copperas Cove Police Department as they navigate through this tragedy. Rest easy Officer Elijah Garretson badge number 118.

It is with profound sadness that we confirm the line of duty death of Officer Elijah Garretson, badge number 118.

At our request, the Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation into an officer involved shooting that occurred on January 10, 2026, which resulted in the on-duty death of Officer Garretson. The suspect was later located, and following a lengthy negotiation attempt, the suspect took his own life.

As we begin to navigate this incredibly difficult time, we ask for understanding and patience as our department, Officer Garretson’s family, and our law enforcement family grieve this tremendous loss. Out of respect for all those affected and the ongoing investigation, no further information is being released at this time.

We ask the community to keep Officer Garretson’s loved ones and our department in their thoughts and prayers. 🕊️💙🙏🏼

Just a friendly notification that speed humps have been installed on 1st and 2nd street. Temporary markings have been laid down and signs will be put up soon.

As the weather 🌧️❄️☔️ gets worse please remember to slow ⚠️🚧 down and move over for those of us that work on the side of the road. 🚓🚒🚑🚜🪝State law requires that you slow down 20mph under the posted speed limit or vacate the lane.
