CONGRATULATIONS to Milie Lowrimore, an 8th grade student at NMBMS who was honored by the North Myrtle Beach Optimist Club as the APRIL Student of the Month. Milie is the daughter of Danielle Lowrimore. At school, Milie is a member of the Junior Varsity Lacrosse team and NMBH. She is also a leader in the Unified Buddy Club, where she has worked for all three years of middle school. In this role, Milie participates in activities with and promotes inclusion for students with special needs. She was also a one-on-one buddy at the Special Olympics event which was an exciting opportunity for her to "encourage and cheer on the athletesβ. ππ
Outside of school, Milie stays busy with a variety of activities that are important to her including attending sporting events to support her friends and classmates. She enjoys supporting her school and being a part of the school community. This past fall, Milie was a member of the SCACA 14u South Carolina State Championship volleyball team from North Myrtle Beach and served as a 10u recreation volleyball coach, including at the All-Star level. Outside of sports, Milie attends Redemption Hill Church, which is also an important part of her life.
In her free time, Milie spends a lot of time volunteering. Since the start of 8th grade, Milie has completed over 100 hours of community service. She helped out with a Vacation Bible School program, volunteered with the North Myrtle Beach High School Booster Club, and tutored elementary school students at Waterway Elementary school three days a week. Milie also volunteers at the NMB Animal Shelter where she led a dog food drive that collected over 300 pounds of food. She is also an official βpuppy playerβ, spending time helping and interacting with the animals. At Halloween, Milie created her own station at Waterway Elementary Schoolβs Trunk or Treat event and she volunteers with LowCountry Food Distribution on the third Saturday of each month to help distribute food to families in need.
Milieβs message to other students is to βbe supportive, stay kind (even when itβs hard), and take pride in everything that you do. You donβt have to be perfect, but being there, trying your best, and supporting others can make a big differenceβ.
Milieβs high school goal is to graduate with her cosmetology license so she can have an immediate skill to apply. She also wants to continue working with the Special Olympics because it is a cause that she is very passionate about. In addition, Milie hopes to continue coaching youth volleyball at the recreation department. She enjoys the opportunity to help younger athletes grow and learn the game. One day, she hopes to start her own recreational girls lacrosse team. Eventually, Milie hopes to earn a degree in Special Education and would like to return to North Myrtle Beach to teach and help her future students enjoy school and learn ππ
The Student of the Month is sponsored by the North Myrtle Beach Optimist Club and selected by a committee of teachers. The selection is based on community service, academic achievement, personal effort and positive behavior.
