Arkansas Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities Educate individuals with disabilities and their families about how they can advocate for themselves. i

The 26 member council consists of individuals with developmental disabilities;family members of individuals with developmental disabilities, and people representing higher education, state agencies, advocacy groups, policymakers and provider organizations The Council funds grants and projects that: Raise awareness and
understanding of the many issues faced by individuals with disabilities.Assist i

ndividuals with disabilities in advocating for
accessibility in the community, including transportation,housing,
schools and recreational facilities. Work with other government
agencies and not-for-profit organizations to increase educational,
employment and social opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Operating under the Developmental Disabilities Assistance Bill of Rights Act(P.L 106-402 as amended) the Council's "in-house" activities include:
Family Leadership Training- A training program in which participants
acquire the skills necessary to effectively engage in the development of policies,programs,services and supports for individuals with disabilities and their families. State Conference-An annual event during which individuals with disabilities and their families are introduced to the latest innovations
in service and support programs. Information and Referral- DDC provides access to resource materials,programs,services and supports available from national,state and local agencies and not-for-profit organizations. Included in these materials are DDC's own Parent Packet,Vital Records Guide,Alphabet Soup and Watch Your Words brochures.
