We are proud to celebrate the grand opening of the Child Welfare Learning Lab at the University of Arkansas Little Rock (UALR), a groundbreaking partnership between the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Children and Family Services and the MidSOUTH Training Academy.

This innovative training space will give new child welfare professionals the opportunity to build confidence, strengthen critical skills, and gain hands-on experience through realistic simulations before serving children and families in communities across Arkansas.

We are grateful to our partners at UALR and MidSOUTH for their shared commitment to investing in Arkansas' child welfare workforce and improving outcomes for children and families statewide. Together, we're building a stronger foundation for those called to serve.

Members of our DCFS team recently toured the Arkansas Baptist Family Ministry Family Visitation Rooms alongside Judge Tjuana Byrd Manning and Judge Shanice Johnson.

These rooms provide a safe, welcoming, and child-friendly space for visits and other important case-related meetings. With toys, books, games, TVs, and comfortable furnishings, they help create an environment where families can focus on building and maintaining meaningful connections.

Thank you to Judge Byrd Manning and Judge Johnson for taking time to learn more about this important resource and the impact it has on children and families in our communities.

Congratulations to Division of Children and Family Services Director Tiffany Wright for being named by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute as one of the 2026 Angels in Adoption. Whether advocating alongside lawmakers and partners at the state Capitol, running numerous miles to draw attention to children waiting for their forever homes, dressing up as a mermaid to make one child’s adoption hearing that much more special, or leading a team of more than 1,000 dedicated child welfare staff members across the state, Director Wright works each day to advance the belief that every child deserves a safe home and a loving family.

Thanks to U.S. Sen. John Boozman for nominating Director Wright, and thanks also to the amazing partners all across the state who work closely with DCFS to serve children and families.

DCFS Area 7 hosted their Annual Foster Parent Conference this past weekend.

Under the theme of “A Passport to Purpose: A Journey in Foster Care," the conference was planned with one goal in mind—to encourage, equip, and empower foster parents for the incredible work they do every single day.

It was a powerful reminder that every placement, every family meeting, every school conference, and every milestone is part of a child’s journey toward hope, healing, and permanency.

DCFS leaders from across Arkansas spent two days this week at “Be A Change Maker,” a statewide supervisor meeting offering the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and engage. Supervisors took part in an array of breakout sessions on topics like understanding the lived experiences of youth in foster care, optimizing accountability in supervision, and developing strategies to create greater urgency around achieving permanency for youth. We are grateful for our staff across the state and our partners who were able to attend!
