Baptist Health MedFlight is a leader in delivering emergency transport care with a crew consisting of Flight Nurses, Flight Paramedics, Board Certified Emergency Physicians, Flight Coordinators, Pilots and Mechanics. ist Health. Each crew member maintains the cutting edge of technology by attending specialized training under the direction of MedFlight Medical Director, Dr. Darren Flamik. MedFlight is the first air ambulance transportation service in Arkansas to obtain approval to perform Rapid Sequence Intubation in the field and the only Arkansas based aeromedical service to transport Intra Aortic Balloon Pumps. MedFlight's communication center is staffed with NAACS certified/EMT certified flight coordinators. They are responsible for obtaining flight information for each request and monitroing the helicopter's flight path, utilzing a satellite tracking system. The communication center serves as a physician referral call center for Baptist Health, assisting transferring hospitals and physicians obtain specialized care for the patients they serve. MedFlight air ambulance transportation consists of a Eurocopter AS350, which is owned by Baptist Health and operated by Metro Aviation of Shreveport, Lousiana. Metro Aviation supplies Baptist Health MedFlight with qualified pilots and mechanics. As a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service provider, Metro Aviation has high quality standards for their pilots. Pilots are required to have an FAA Commercial License with additional instrument rating. They must also have a minimum of 2,500 flight hours and prior Emergency Medical Service experience. Our pilots have over 15,000 combined flight hours, and most are military trained and are either retired military or actively serving in the Arkansas Army National Guard. All served our country during combat in Desert Storm, Somalia, Bosnia, Kosovo and Iraq.
