The Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System was created by Act 177 of 1957. The System originally provided only for the retirement of State employees but through the years has added county employees, municipal employees, college and university employees, non-teaching public school employees, and other non-state employees.

You’ve heard the word “vested”—but what does it mean? 🤔

At APERS, vesting means you’ve earned the right to a future retirement benefit once you meet the retirement eligibility requirements. Members become vested after five years of service.

Meet Julianna Alamina! Since moving to the Natural State, Julianna has added a new goal to the travel list: visiting Portugal. She is currently learning Portuguese in hopes of making that trip someday.

Juliana also recently joined the APERS CARES Committee and hopes to organize community service events that help coworkers connect while giving back. We’re excited to see those ideas come to life! 💚

APERS earned an audited 18% investment return in fiscal year 2026! The investment portfolio grew by $1.8 billion, surpassing $14 billion for the first time.
