๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Celebrate Independence Day with the Roanoke Valley Veterans Museum! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Weโ€™ll be open next Saturday, July 4th, but our doors will open after the Littleton Independence Day Parade.

Our museum volunteers will be marching proudly in the parade โ€” and we invite you to join us in the festivities! Come cheer along the route, then stop by the museum afterward to explore the stories and artifacts that honor our local heroes.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Happy Flag Day & Happy 251st Birthday to the United States Army! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

From all of us at the Roanoke Valley Veterans Museum, we proudly celebrate two powerful symbols of American history and service โ€” our nationโ€™s flag and the founding of the United States Army.

Today, we honor Flag Day, marking June 14, 1777, when the Continental Congress approved the first official design of the American flag. Since that day, the Stars and Stripes have flown over battlefields, humanitarian missions, and hometown celebrations โ€” a constant reminder of unity, sacrifice, and the enduring promise of freedom.

We also celebrate the 251st birthday of the United States Army, founded on June 14, 1775. The Army has stood at the forefront of every major chapter in our nationโ€™s story, defending liberty and shaping the course of American history. Many of the heroes represented within our museum wore the Army uniform with honor and courage.

As we commemorate both milestones, we invite you to reflect on the generations of Soldiers and Veterans who carried our flag forward โ€” often into danger โ€” so it could continue to represent hope around the world.

๐Ÿ“ The museum is open today from 1 PM to 4 PM.
Stop by, explore our exhibits, and help us honor the legacy of service that continues to inspire our community.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ We honor the flag. We celebrate the Army. We remember the heroes.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ A Wall of Heroes in the Roanoke Valley ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

In todayโ€™s video, weโ€™re reflecting on one of the many powerful stories preserved inside the Roanoke Valley Veterans Museum. Among the thousands of photographs lining the exhibits is the portrait of Lillie Maude Collins Bonsall โ€” a U.S. Navy WAVES Veteran and mother of Oak Ridge Boys tenor Joe Bonsall.

Her story is just one thread in a vast tapestry of service. Every wall, every frame, every face in this museum represents a life lived in courage and commitment. When you step inside, youโ€™re surrounded by generations of Veterans whose sacrifices shaped our community and our nation.
