UPDATE: Littleton Water & Light is reporting the restoration project has been completed. If you are still experiencing a power outage or issue contact them at 603-444-2915.

----------------------

Today, the Town of Littleton will experience an emergency town-wide power outage from approximately 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM while crews work to repair a supply line issue and restore system reliability.

Residents and businesses should prepare for temporary impacts including loss of lighting, heating/cooling systems, internet service, and other electrical equipment. Please use caution if traveling through town, as some traffic signals may be affected. If you rely on powered medical equipment, take appropriate precautions and have a backup plan in place.

Littleton Fire Rescue reminds everyone to use generators safely outdoors and never inside homes, garages, or enclosed spaces. Avoid using candles when possible and use flashlights or battery-powered lighting instead.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as crews work to complete repairs and safely restore power to the community.

On Wednesday, May 13th, firefighters on C Shift were kept busy, handling a total of eleven calls for service throughout the day.

The morning began shortly after shift change at 7:10 am. with a three car motor vehicle collision on Meadow Street. Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported. While crews were operating at the scene, Grafton County transmitted a General Alarm for a reported chimney fire on Grove Street. Off duty full-time and call members responded, and the incident was ultimately determined to be a good intent call.

A second General Alarm was transmitted around 3:10 pm. for a motor vehicle fire on Willow Street. Engine 1 was able to quickly contain the fire to the engine compartment, preventing further extension.

Shortly before 10:00 pm, Engine 1 was dispatched to a restaurant on Meadow Street for a CO₂ alarm activation involving a beverage system. On arrival, Lt. Piscitelli identified a refrigerated liquid carbon dioxide system venting outside the building. Firefighters entered and found the tank over pressurized, auto refrigerating, and leaking.

A staffing recall was transmitted, bringing off duty and call members back to the station while crews worked to mitigate the hazard. Twin State HAZMAT was consulted, and it was determined the leak could not be stopped. Firefighters remained on scene until approximately 7:00 am monitoring conditions and ensuring the safety of the building.

Chief Miller stated, “This was a long and demanding operational period for our firefighters. From early morning calls through an overnight hazardous materials incident, our members demonstrated professionalism, teamwork, and a continued commitment to protecting our community.”

Severe Weather Impacts Littleton This Afternoon

This afternoon, Littleton experienced a period of severe weather that brought heavy rain, strong winds, and rapidly changing conditions across the area. Littleton Fire Rescue responded to ten calls for service, including downed trees, hazardous road conditions, alarm activations, and a reported lightning strike.

Shortly after 4:30 PM, Grafton County Dispatch began receiving multiple concurrent calls. By 4:45 PM, off-duty full-time and call members were requested to assist C Shift. Firefighters worked alongside our partners at the Littleton Police Department and Littleton Water & Light to assess damage, clear hazards, and ensure the safety of residents and visitors. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries or significant property damage.

Chief Chad Miller stated, “Today’s storm is a good reminder of how quickly conditions can change. Firefighters worked to ensure buildings were safe, roadways were open, and downed wires and other hazards were secured. We are fortunate to have strong partnerships in public safety with Grafton County, Littleton Police and Littleton Water & Light.”

Stay safe Littleton.

🐻🚮 Bear Activity Reminder – Keep Littleton Safe 🚮🐻

As the weather warms up, bear activity is increasing across Littleton. Black bears are highly attracted to easy food sources—especially household trash—and once they find it, they tend to keep coming back.

The Town of Littleton has an ordinance requiring the use of bear-resistant trash containers, and for good reason. Securing your trash isn’t just about protecting your property—it’s about protecting our wildlife and keeping our community safe.

Here’s how you can help:
• Use bear-resistant trash containers as required by local ordinance
• Keep trash secured until the morning of pickup whenever possible
• Avoid leaving bags or food waste outside overnight
• Clean your containers regularly to reduce odors
• Remove other attractants like pet food, bird feeders, and grills

When bears become accustomed to human food, they can become aggressive and often have to be relocated—or euthanized. A fed bear is a dead bear.

On Saturday, April 25th shortly after 7:00 a.m., the oncoming A Shift of Littleton Fire Rescue responded to a reported smoke investigation in the area of Mount Eustis Road and the Industrial Park.
Engine 1 and Ambulance 3 arrived in the area and quickly confirmed an active smoke condition. Crews located the source as a burning demolition dumpster at the Littleton Transfer Station.
Lt. Piscitelli established command, requested Grafton County Dispatch transmit a General Alarm, and initiated fire attack by stretching a handline to the involved dumpster. Off duty full-time and call members responded to assist with Car 1, Car 2, Tanker 1, and Engine 2.
Fire attack was initiated through the compactor fire port. As transfer station staff arrived, they were able to utilize a loader to remove the dumpster from the compactor, significantly improving access. Firefighters then undertook the difficult and labor intensive task of pulling apart and extinguishing burning debris within the container.
Mutual aid from Lisbon Fire Department was requested but ultimately cancelled prior to their arrival.
While the incident was being brought under control, Car 1 and Engine 2 were redirected to a separate fire alarm activation at a commercial building on Main Street.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is suspected to be related to a discarded battery.
Chief Chad Miller stated,
“This is our second battery fire within 24 hours. RSA 149 now makes improper disposal a crime. We urge the public to dispose of these batteries properly at the Littleton Transfer Station. Any battery that smells, changes color, becomes too hot, changes shape, or makes noises should stop being used, placed in an outdoor location, and the fire department should be contacted.”

This past week, members of the Littleton Police Department and Littleton Fire Rescue attended NAMI New Hampshire’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training program.

The CIT program highlights national best practices, strengthens community partnerships, and helps communities build effective, compassionate systems for serving individuals affected by mental illness. Through this training, first responders learn to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health conditions, apply proven de-escalation techniques, and connect individuals with appropriate community-based mental health resources. The goal is simple but critical: ensure the safety and dignity of those in crisis, the public, and the first responders serving them.

The program was co-hosted by Littleton Regional Healthcare, Littleton Police Department, and Littleton Fire Rescue, and brought together a wide range of professionals from across the North Country, including law enforcement officers, dispatchers, corrections personnel, firefighters, and EMS providers. This marks the second time the CIT program has been hosted at Littleton Regional Healthcare.

Chief Chad Miller opened the training by reminding attendees of the responsibility that comes with this work, stating “You hold their dignity when they can’t. This program will teach us some of how to do that.”

Every day, our departments respond to and interact with individuals experiencing mental health challenges and substance use disorders. To date, approximately 20 members between our agencies have completed CIT training—an important step in continuing to build a coordinated, compassionate, and effective response system for our community.

04/25/2026

On Friday, April 24th at approximately 4:45 PM, Grafton County Dispatch transmitted a first alarm assignment to Littleton Fire Rescue for a reported structure fire at Newton’s Mobile Home Park. Initial reports indicated a fully involved building with occupants inside.

Car 1, Engine 1, Ladder 1, and Ambulance 3 along with automatic aid responded on the initial assignment. Engine 1 arrived on scene with Lt. Robidoux establishing command to find a fire on the exterior of the building that had been largely extinguished prior to arrival. Crews quickly confirmed that the fire had extended slightly into the structure but remained limited in scope. The first alarm was quickly downgraded to a general alarm.

A neighbor played a critical role in the outcome of this incident. After noticing the fire, they alerted the sleeping resident, who was able to safely exit the building. The neighbor then utilized a large fire extinguisher to knock down the bulk of the fire, actions that likely prevented significant damage to the home.

Firefighters completed extinguishment, checked for extension, and ensured the structure was safe. There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a lithium-ion battery portable jump starter. After extinguishment, the damaged battery was placed into a CellBlock fire containment system, specifically designed to safely store compromised lithium-ion batteries. It was removed from the scene and will be properly disposed of.

Chief Chad Miller stated, “This incident is a great example of how quick thinking and decisive action by a neighbor can make a difference. Early notification, helping the occupant get out safely, and using a fire extinguisher kept this fire from becoming much more serious. There were no working smoke detectors in the building, and the resident was provided with new ones. Smoke detectors save lives. If you are in need, please contact the fire station.”
