A hand against a plane window.

To some, it’s a simple moment. To patient Bowie, it’s something much deeper. A return to home, to family, to Country.

Through our Low-Acuity Medical Retrieval Service in the NT’s Top End, we work with Territorians living with complex health conditions to reconnect with the people and places that matter most.

Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week. This year's theme, ‘All In’, calls for Australians to commit to reconciliation each and every day.

At the RFDS, we recognise the strength and resilience shown by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and communities and express our gratitude to those who share their knowledge with us as we continue to grow and learn on our reconciliation journey.

An innovative internship program is helping give local students a path towards a career in emergency vehicle maintenance, while also keeping our fleet of more than 100 fire apparatus, ambulances, and utility vehicles running smoothly!

Arvada Fire partnered with Warren Tech this Spring to launch an internship program within our Fleet Division. Three students, all local to Arvada, began working in our maintenance shop, gaining mentorship and hands-on experience maintaining and repairing a variety of emergency vehicles.

Nationally, there is a shortage of mechanics working in the heavy-duty trucking industries. This shortage is even more pronounced in emergency services, where the path to becoming an Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) requires countless advanced certifications and specialized knowledge to work on complicated equipment like fire trucks. We hope this internship program will help develop a pipeline for future hires at Arvada Fire. Without working apparatus and those that can repair them, we can't complete our mission of saving lives.

Our first class has nearly completed their internship before heading off to college. We'll host this program again in 2027! We're proud to mentor and invest in the next generation.

🎥 The 9NEWS (KUSA) Morning Show came out to our maintenance shop this week to cover this story! Link in comments.

It is with great sadness that North Metro Fire Rescue District announces the off-duty death of Lieutenant Chad Tellinger due to illness. Chad was hired by North Metro in 1998 and proudly served the community and organization for more than 27 years. He was 52 years old.

Chad was a highly respected firefighter, mentor, IAFF Local 2203 leader, and beloved family man whose loss is deeply felt across the North Metro family. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, two sisters, and his mother.

The District is working closely with Chad’s family to coordinate services and support. With the family’s permission, additional information will be shared in the coming days.
