Last big event for 2026 on Saturday, October 24th!

Join us for our 5th annual BOO! event at Roxborough State Park! Festivities start at 12:00pm and go until 4:00pm. Enjoy a safe, festive and educational trick-or-treat adventure in Roxborough's stunning autumn setting! Special guests from the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Alliance will feature several of their amazing animal ambassadors!

No registration is required for this event, valid vehicle pass or Keep Colorado Wild for your vehicle required for park entry.

It's almost here! Homestead Hikes are October 24 (South Trails) and October 25 (Fountain Valley).

You won't want to miss these guided hikes in the beautiful fall foliage and dramatic rock formations. Every year our history team uncovers new information about the homestead era in the park. Most recently we've learned a lot about the local railroad spurs and quarries and have new stories about some of the area's 19th and 20th century residents. You'll develop a deeper connection to local history on these hikes.

Meet at the Visitor Center patio at 8:00 am for a brief orientation. Bring water and dress for the weather.

Saturday, October 24: Homesteads of the South Trails (strenuous) ... 7 miles; turn-back options at 1.5 and 2 miles; bring lunch

Sunday, October 25: Homesteads of the Fountain Valley (easy) ... 2.2 miles

The park fills up quickly so arrive at the Visitor Center early to make sure you are there in time for the hike.

Spots still open for a guided bird hike THIS Sunday, 10/18!

Grab your bird book and binoculars and join us for bird watching adventures. These hikes are for all birding ability levels. Dress for changing weather conditions. Registration required and meeting location is at the Visitor Center patio. Trail chosen for hike will be decided that morning before the group goes out to hike.

History is fun!

It's not just the fascinating settlers and their buildings. Our history team members will talk about the local C&S railroad, the Silicated Brick factory, local quarries and ranches, and the variety of ways homesteaders could obtain land from the government. Enjoy the October foliage among the dramatic rock formations.

It's almost here! International Archaeology Day is Saturday, October 17.

Roxborough State Park is a National Archaeological Preserve. Join us to learn how ancient people lived and worked among the dramatic geologic formations of the park.

Take an easy 10:00 guided walk to the Fountain Valley overlook to learn about several of our more than 60 prehistoric sites. Join our volunteer naturalists on the patio from 9:30am-1pm for fun-filled demonstrations and activities. And visit the Walk Through Time poster show in the auditorium.

No registration required. Come early if you want to be on time for the 10am walk. We'll see you there!

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR TODAY, SATURDAY OCTOBER 3RD

We have a large volunteer group from Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado coming out to do extensive work on our most popular trail - Fountain Valley Trail. If you've hiked it or attended a Rox Ride this year, you've experienced the significant trail damage our beloved trail desperately needs. We are fortunate to have a large contingent of volunteers coming out to repair the entire 2 mile loop!

That being said, the majority of our parking spaces will be utilized by VOC volunteers and we expect the park to fill up early and remain full through the afternoon. Between both a lack of parking and our most popular trail being worked on, we recommend finding an alternate day to come out to Roxborough State Park. Also, our Fall colors are hardly out, so perhaps planning to come out in a week or two would be a much better option!

If you do decide to come out to the park today, expect a long wait at the Entrance Station. Please note that West Metro fire station immediately outside our front gate has an open house from 10:00am - 12:00pm today, making it a good alternative if you're in the area!

Join us for our fall homestead hikes in celebration of Colorado Historical Preservation Month:

Saturday, October 24: Homesteads of the South Trails (strenuous) ... 7 miles; turn-back options at 1.5 and 2 miles; bring lunch

Sunday, October 25: Homesteads of the Fountain Valley (easy) ... 2.2 miles

Hiking among the beautiful scenery of Roxborough State Park, tour structures from some of our 38 homestead sites. Volunteers from our history team will tell stories of the colorful characters and lifestyles of these settlers. Maybe some of your grandparents were there!

Come walk through time! Celebrate International Archaeology Day on Saturday, October 17.

9:30am-1pm: Patio tables will have demos and activities to learn about prehistoric lifestyles. Explore traditional ecological knowledge via Ute STEM programs. Learn how local ecosystems were exploited by the Archaic and Woodland people. Throw a spear with an atlatl, grind nuts on a metate, and learn how to make soup in a basket. Kids activities will include face painting, rock art, and making twig animals. The Walk Through Time poster show in the auditorium will give you an in-depth understanding of our local archaeology at your own pace.

10:00 am: Walk and Talk to the Fountain Valley Overlook (short, easy, beautiful). You'll develop a connection to the ancient residents of the park learning about campgrounds, quarries, and work sites.

No registration required. Bring the whole family for a fun and educational experience. Come early for the hike to avoid parking delays.
