💊 Medicare prescription drug plan has big changes under the Inflation Reduction Act that caps out of pocket medication copays. The law sets a maximum out of pocket limit of $2,100 for Medicare covered drug copays for 2026 and resets each year. After reaching $2,100, you stop paying copays for the rest of the year for tier 3, 4, or 5 expensive medications, while premiums and non-covered drugs are not included. Discounts from programs like GoodRx or Costco or King Soopers do not count toward the $2,100 cap. You may be able to spread medication costs throughout the year via a payment plan rather than paying a large deductible upfront. Any questions…I can help!

🚨Medicare scams are on the rise. Here’s what to watch out for if you receive a suspicious contact:
🆓 An offer of “Free” medical equipment or testing
🪪 Asking for your Medicare number -you should never share that information with unknown callers.
☎️Hang up on unwelcome, pressured callers who promise benefits that seem too good to be true
🕵🏻‍♀️ Be your own detective and Google the phone number and call the company back.

🌉Curious about the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program as it pertains to Ozempic vs Wegovy? The new July 2026 law allows GLP-1 options via a program where a doctor must submit prior authorization and the program is separate from drug plan coverage.
⚖️Ozempic is FDA approved for type 2 diabetes, while Wegovy is approved for weight management and weight loss and has been tied to cardiovascular risk reduction.
The program can provide medication options for $50 a month, including Wegovy, Zepbound, or Foundayo, whereas using a drug plan may cost much more.

🤷🏻‍♀️What to do when a Medicare agent will not call you back. Many agents eventually stop growing and may not provide ongoing support, making it difficult to find a replacement, especially for annual Medicare drug plan shopping. Medicare drug plans do not work with agents the same way as other insurance companies and that many agents do not offer this service, while Medicare Advantage agents can be more responsive. I can help if your current agent is unresponsive. TIP -ask how long any new agent plans to stay in the business, especially if you are new to Medicare.

Ask the pharmacist whether you can get a discount without using your plan. Why? Because discounts from the pharmacy or choosing the plan co-pay, may change the final cost. Also check GoodRx.com for price comparisons across pharmacies, using preferred pharmacies for better plan rates and asking for generic alternatives.

📣ICYMI- Medicare now has coverage options for GLP-1 weight loss medications like Wegovy and Zepbound, called GLP-1 Bridge Program. This was not covered until July 2026. Retail pricing is typically over $1,000 and insurance coverage depends on the plan formulary and deductible or copays. The main option discussed is the GLP-1 Bridge Program, which a doctor👨🏻‍⚕️ must apply for via prior authorization to potentially reduce the cost to $50 a month. Coverage through a regular drug plan may cost significantly more, especially after an initial deductible around $615.

How to begin your Medicare journey? Start by✍🏼signing up for Medicare on ssa.gov (http://ssa.gov/)
The Social Security Administration has added extra security to its website, ssa.gov (http://ssa.gov/), to help protect your identity.
In addition to your password and verification code, you may now be asked to:
• Upload a photo of your driver’s license
• Take a quick selfie to confirm your identity
This added step helps ensure that you are you—but it can feel like a lot if you’re not expecting it. Many people have told me that this process is difficult and sometimes impossible.
If you run into trouble signing up for Medicare online, you still have options:
• Make an appointment (just know it may take a few weeks—or even months—to get in)
• Walk into your local Social Security office on a weekday afternoon
◦ Try Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday
◦ Arrive before they close their doors at 4 PM
◦ You may be able to wait and be seen after scheduled appointments
• Call Social Security
◦ Best times: early morning or later in the day to reduce hold times
Bottom line: The online process is more secure than ever—but if it’s frustrating, there are still real people who can help you get enrolled.
