I had to share this — huge congratulations to Commissioner Lesley Dahlkemper on being named Phil Weiser’s pick for Lieutenant Governor!

I’ve had the privilege of working in Jeffco government for 28 years now, and I can tell you firsthand: what you see is what you get. She shows up, she listens, and she does the unglamorous work of actually fixing problems — like untangling our tax cap mess — instead of just talking about them. Watching her protect public education and face the opioid crisis in Jeffco with real compassion and real follow-through has made me respect the work she has done for Jeffco citizens and employees.

Colorado is about to see what Jeffco has known for years. So excited for this next chapter, Lesley — you’ve earned it!

Last night went late into the evening as we watched the results from the primary wanting to respect every vote cast.

Running for assessor isn’t easy, and I’m glad that’s behind me now. We put everything we had into building my name awareness and explaining the needs for the position. The voters have made their decision and Andy is going to have my support as he gets to work for this community as the new Assessor in January.

I want to thank every single person who knocked on doors, made calls, put up a sign, donated money and stamps, or just showed up to talk with me about what matters to you. This campaign was never about me — it was about making sure our property assessments are fair, transparent, and something people can actually trust. That fight doesn’t end tonight just because I’m not the one leading it.

To my team and my family — thank you for the hours, the patience, and for believing in this even when it was hard. I’m proud of the race we ran.

I’m disappointed, I won’t pretend otherwise. But I’m also grateful. And I’m not going anywhere — I’ll be watching, I’ll be involved, and I’ll be the first to show up if Andy needs a hand or needs to hear a hard truth.

The John Noriega Memorial Labor Picnic was the very first event I attended a year ago as I was deciding to run for Assessor. What a year it’s been. Thank you for all of your kind words, support and votes along this journey.

It’s always a great day when there’s food, politics and conversation about the importance of Union Labor. Unions built our middle class and we can never take that for granted.

As the Deputy Assessor I see the harm of poorly written legislation every day when it comes to TABOR. People are tired of being taxed and charged a fee at every turn. When it passed, TABOR had good intentions with unforeseen bad outcomes for our communities. TABOR should now be repealed. I also fully support a more equitable graduated state income tax so that everyone pays their fair share.

Election Day is Tuesday. I would be honored to receive your vote for Jefferson County Assessor.

POLICY STATEMENT

When elected, one of my goals is to build a succession plan for Assessor. This job takes years of training and technical experience. Unlike other large Colorado counties, Jefferson County hasn't had an official succession plan that includes training and mentorship for the next step in their career. The Assessor's office has also not had an appraiser as the Assessor in decades. It's time this job was seen as a professional position. It's not a political stepping stone for career-driven candidates. We can train and promote qualified appraisers for that role, and have a plan in the event of an emergency.

I'm writing to ask for your support and your vote for Jefferson County Assessor this election. I'm Sue Flageolle, and I'm seeking the Democratic nomination for this office.

For more than 28 years, I've served in the Jefferson County Assessor's Office, currently as Deputy Assessor. Before that, I worked at the Douglas County Assessor's Office, where I helped develop valuation models and launch new appraisal systems. My career in real estate appraisal spans more than four decades, and I've held a Certified General Appraisal License since 1989. This isn't a resume I built for a campaign — it's a career I've built in service to Colorado property owners.

My Democratic values are exactly what drive my approach to this office. Fair and equitable valuations are, at their core, a matter of justice: making sure every property owner pays their fair share, and that no one — particularly those with the fewest resources to push back — carries an inequitable tax burden because of an inaccurate or opaque assessment. That commitment to fairness, transparency, and protecting working families aligns directly with the values our party stands for.

I'm also proud to be leading Jefferson County's transition to a modern, cloud-based mass appraisal platform launching this year, ensuring our office runs efficiently and serves residents well.

I know this job, and I'm ready to hit the ground running on day one. As a fellow Democrat, I'd be honored to earn your vote.
