Traffic Alert...

TRAFFIC ALERT: The southbound main lanes of IH-35 will be closed at Loop 1604 until late this morning to allow for cleanup operations resulting from a major accident early this morning. The Live Oak Police Department responded to a major motor vehicle crash involving a commercial motor vehicle that struck two Texas Department of Transportation Scorpion barricade construction vehicles on IH-35 southbound.

Due to the severity of the crash and the presence of fluid leakage, all southbound main lanes of IH-35 are shut down while emergency personnel investigate the incident and work to clear and cleanup the roadway. Traffic is currently being diverted at the Anderson Loop (1604) exit.

Alternate routes are advised until the roadway is reopened. Please drive safely.

Last week, Chief Fratus had the honor of attending the FBI National Command Course (NCC) in Woodbridge, Virginia, an elite leadership program created specifically for police executives from agencies with fewer than 50 sworn officers.

Attendance at the NCC is highly selective and requires nomination by the local FBI Field Office. Chief Fratus joined 51 law enforcement leaders from across the United States for an intensive week focused on strategic leadership, officer wellness, organizational planning, and ethical decision-making.

Even more exciting, Chief Fratus was selected by his peers to serve as the Class President and Representative for the program, a tremendous honor recognizing leadership, professionalism, and collaboration.

At the Live Oak Police Department, we believe leadership and professional development are ongoing commitments. Opportunities like this help us continue growing, strengthening our profession, and providing the highest level of service to the community we are proud to serve.

๐ŸŽ“ Congratulations to our 2026 Citizens Police Academy Graduates! ๐ŸŽ“

We are proud to announce that 11 community members have successfully graduated from the Citizens Police Academy! This 10-week course is designed to strengthen the bond between the Live Oak Police Department and the community we serve.

Participants met once a week to gain a firsthand look at law enforcement operations, exploring topics such as city governance, Telecommunications, crime prevention, investigations, SWAT, Drone, K9, and Animal Control.

The purpose of the Academy is to build trust, understanding, and transparency by giving citizens a deeper appreciation of the challenges and responsibilities faced by law enforcement every day.

We are grateful to Mayor Mary Dennis, Assistant Chief Barela, and Lt. Feldtmose, for taking part in the ceremony and presenting awards to this year's graduates. ๐Ÿ’™

Interested in joining the next Citizens Police Academy class? Keep an eye out for our announcement at the beginning of next year or look for it in the Live Oak Hometown News Magazine! We would love to have you join us! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ Citizens Police Academy Week 9: Officer Safety & Use of Force

This week, our CPA participants got an inside look at one of the most critical aspects of law enforcement: Officer Safety and Use of Force.

Lt. Hernandez and Cpl. Canales led an engaging classroom session walking participants through the guidelines, decision-making process, and legal standards that officers must follow when it comes to use of force. This topic is one of the most important and most misunderstood areas of law enforcement, and we are committed to bringing transparency and education to our community.

Participants gained a deeper understanding of the training, responsibility, and split-second decision-making that our officers face in the field every day. ๐Ÿ’™

We are so proud of this year's CPA class for showing up, asking great questions, and truly engaging in the process. This is exactly what community policing is all about! ๐ŸŽ“

Only one week to go graduation is just around the corner! ๐ŸŽ‰
