A HUGE Thank You to Ashley Ridgeway, Nadine Voelz/Philip Giglio, Lynn Smith (Soly sends his love!) Anne Kern and Karolyn Crooks ❤
Mystic Jungle Educational Facility desperately needs your help ❤
It has been a really tight year. With each month donations shrinking and tours not being to full capacity.
These past few months tours have been REALLY slow to almost non exisitent. The cost of fuel is just off the chain as well as the brutal heat!
We are not subsidized by any County, City, State or Federal entities. It is our fellow animal community that has helped us survive the past few years as prices for food, vet care and supplies have went through the roof.
ANY amount helps!

RIP Kurt Beckelman
We lost a close and dear friend of the Jungle yesterday
We met on the internet over two and a half decades ago. Our passion for our beloved leopards is what started our iron clad bond.
He moved to the Jungle shortly after losing his wife Patty. He became one of our major keepers.
He never wanted to leave the Jungle and we promised him that this would indeed be his home forever.
Fly high my friend. Patty and Amadeus await you

I have to once more reiterate facts of captive cats, since a lot of people have bought what is being sold to the public.
Fact- The tigers you see today, whether it be in an AZA
zoo, private zoo or circus even is the direct result of over 15 generations OR MORE of captive breeding programs.
Fact- No one is going to these foreign countries and thumping the mothers in the heads and taking the babies.
Fact- CITES was enacted in July 1975 which prohibits the importation/exportation of rare and endangered species such as the tiger and leopard. I in fact am having to jump through hoops just to get our leopards BLOOD out of the country for proper DNA identification.
Fact - Tigers here in the USA have NOTHING to do with Tiger Farms in other countries, nor the rampant poaching of them in their ancestral lands. There is NO non agenda based and driven data to support these claims and never have been.
Fact- The reason tigers are so prolific here in the US is because they are captive. They are protected.
Fact- YES they belong in the wild but WE at MJEF do NOT believe in better off dead than in captivity.
Fact- POACHING means they are KILLING THEM FOR BODY PARTS
Fact- Until better solutions are found, then these glorious animals face extinction
Fact- Even though the tigers in the US may be of "mixed linage" they still hold valuable DNA because they have a diversified gene pool. And it works. If you do not believe so, then research the Florida Panther project that took TWO different sub species (Puma concolor coryi and Puma concolor couguar) to restart the FLORIDA PANTHER population and the Yellowstone wolves that took the grey wolf (Canis lupus occidentalis) and the true Yellowstone wolves (Canis lupus irremptus) and released them into the park to breed.
Fact- The captive populations may be the ONLY hope for future populations as other countries are not able to manage the rampant killings

So, do not come onto the page with the forethought of what we do is wrong. Maybe in your book it is, but I do ask that you get ALL the facts. Not jaded, propaganda, but FACTS through scientific study, which I currently do EVERY DAY, to keep abreast of the situation. And we also implore to not give us a lecture on how our tigers should be in the wild. WE KNOW THIS, but refuse to stand by idly and do nothing as they are being wiped from the planet. Our cats here today may NEVER share their DNA but they bring it up close and personal, in your face. It is one thing to look at a photo, and go "Dang that is a shame that is happening" than to look up close and personal into their eyes, hear that chuff or saw, and go.. "By God, I am going to help"
Sorry for this long post, but felt it needed to be said after we have gotten not one, but two "They should be in the wild" chastising. Please do not judge a person, place or situation, until you have gathered ALL your facts (and I mean in black and white, scientific facts, not heart wrenching, "arms of an angel" videos

Why We Do What We Do
I was just recently "chastised" in a group page where I posted our video of the Jungle for tours... That "True Sanctuarys do not touch the cats"
Now in their defense, and in playing devils advocate, there is a lot of misinformation out there.. more of the misinformation than actual fact.
We do in fact offer life time homes to any animal that graces our gates. No matter the age or health. Most times, these are not young animals, and they have been with humans their entire lives. Lived in their humans homes or close proximity and most likely was of course TOUCHED...
Now keep in mind these are EXOTIC animals (the true definition of an exotic animal is the animal resides in a land it is not native to) and will NEVER be released. So living in the "wild" is not an option.. nor does the animal know how to do so. We of course treat our native wildlife that is under rehabilitation totally hands off as they must not associate humans with any kind of food source or kindness.. that could in essence get them killed.
We are full contact when the animal WANTS it. We NEVER force an animal to be full contact. And animals seized from prior homes WANT that human interaction.
Imagine this. An animal that has known one owner it's entire (say 5 years) life, all of a sudden uprooted, thrown into a strange environment with strange people. It is at this time, kindness and understanding goes a LONG WAY. Case in point.... check out Rosie's story line on our page. If an animal gets depressed this can effect their physical body. (Cortisol levels go up which can lead to systemic organ failure)
So here, we not only do it for the animals happiness, for the animals safety as well. No need to sedate for transport on the cats that are full contact, (sedation carries the risk of anesthetic death) the cats are well socialized and do not view people as a threat, therefore are not constantly pacing and agitated.
As a result, we have healthy, well adjusted residents here, and while that person was upset and offended, it does not change the fact that our program works.
