Suwannee River Water Management District The Suwannee River Water Management District works to protect and manage water resources to support natural systems and the needs of the public.

The mission of the Suwannee River Water Management District is to protect and manage water resources to support natural systems and the needs of the public. The Suwannee River Water Management District is one of five regional water management districts in Florida, created by the Florida Legislature through passage of the Water Resources Act of 1972. Suwannee is the smallest of the state's water management districts in terms of geographic area, population served, tax base, and agency staff.

We've seen some beneficial rainfall this month across the District, but there's still a ways to go before we make up our rainfall deficit. As a reminder, the landscape irrigation schedule remains at one day per week and the District encourages all water users to continue their conservation measures.

Looks like a beautiful - albeit warm - weekend on tap across North Florida, a perfect opportunity to explore the more than 160,000 acres of District lands. Did you know that 95 percent of them are open 365 days a year for recreational activities such as hiking, birdwatching, swimming, and other activities?

Stay hydrated and make sure you wherever you go!

July was another below-average rainfall month across the District, despite some areas receiving more than 11 inches of rain.

However, rainfall toward the end of the month and into August has helped improve dry conditions. In fact, some western counties in the District received so much rain they are now around the 80th percentile for groundwater, which has boosted the Districtwide average to the 23rd percentile.

With that being said, the District still shows a significant rainfall deficit - more than 22 inches in some places - and more rain is needed to clear up drought conditions.

With school starting back for a new year, did you know the District provides funding to local schools interested in projects that support efforts to educate students and protect our water resources?

This is a great initiative for classes that may have projects in mind but don't have the resources needed to complete them!

The “Leave No Litter” campaign serves as a reminder that enjoying Florida’s outdoors also means helping care for them. By working together, residents and visitors alike can help keep the region’s springs and rivers clean, healthy and beautiful for generations to come.

The Suwannee River Water Management District is promoting its annual Leave No Litter campaign as summer crowds increase along the Ichetucknee, Suwannee and Santa Fe rivers, urging visitors to pack out trash and protect fragile aquatic habitats.

It was a wet weekend around the District. All counties saw beneficial rainfall, with some seeing significant numbers - the District's gage in Steinhatchee shows nearly 11 inches of rain in the last seven days, and gages in Dixie, Levy, and Suwannee show more than seven inches of rainfall.

We are thankful for the rain. If you want to see rainfall totals for your area, click the link below to visit our Real-Time Rainfall page. Remember, localized rainfall could be more or less than what our specific gages show.
