Turning in my ballot for the Special Primary Election! There is only one race on this ballot -- for a candidate to finish the term formerly held by Eric Swalwell. This person will hold the seat until the new term begins in January 2027.
There are 11 candidates on this ballot, some of whom, not all, are also on the ballot for the term beginning in 2027. If one candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, they can begin serving sooner, and our district will once again have representation in Congress. If we don't, we will have to vote again in a runoff in August, which means a summer with no representation in Congress.
If we elect the same person in the two separate races for this congressional seat, they will get the jump on committee assignments in Congress before all the other first-year Members of Congress are installed in January. Committees are where a lot of the work is done, so we want our congressional representative to have this advantage.
Both the Mercury News and San Francisco Chronicle have strongly endorsed Aisha Wahab. As the Mercury News says in its endorsement, "D.C. is no place to send a novice. And Wahab isn't one... There is only one reliable, proven candidate on both ballots. That's Wahab. Keep it simple. Vote for her. Twice."
