There have been some questions circulating regarding the PARD tax and the role of the Assessor’s Office, and we want to clear up any confusion.

The Assessor’s Office does not place any tax on the ballot. Our role is limited to determining the value of land and improvements. From there, we provide taxing districts with the millage they would need to collect in order to remain revenue neutral. However, it is the responsibility of each taxing district—not the Assessor’s Office—to set their millage rate.

We do not set millages, we do not determine how much you will owe, and we do not send out tax notices or collect tax payments.

For those who would like to understand how property taxes are calculated, we have a formula available on our website that can help you estimate your expected taxes. This is the best tool to use instead of calling our office, as we cannot provide individual tax amounts.

Due to inclement weather, the Livingston Parish Assessor’s Office will be closed on Tuesday, January 21st and Wednesday, January 22nd.

Weather permitting, normal operations will resume on Thursday, January, 23rd at 11:00am or when it is safe for travel.

Office Closure Announcement: Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. & Weather Advisory

The Livingston Parish Assessor’s Office will be closed on Monday, January 20th, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday. We pause to honor Dr. King’s enduring legacy.

Additionally, due to inclement weather, the State Commissioner of Administration has ordered the closure of all state offices on Tuesday, January 21st. In alignment with this directive, our office will also remain closed on Tuesday.

Weather permitting, normal operations will resume on Wednesday, January 22nd.
