As many of you remember, the Northtown Planned Unit Development (PUD) proposed by Northtown Livingston developers went through a four-month review process last year, starting with a required initial public workshop in March 2025.

The property has since changed hands and is now called The Ridge PUD. The new owner is proposing design and timeline changes, and the city is requiring a restart of the formal PUD approval process.

This process kicks off next week with a Public Work Session; please join us!

🌎 Want to help build the next generation of climate leaders in Montana?

We’re excited to launch the Youth Climate Mentor Network, a statewide initiative connecting college students with high school youth working on climate, conservation, and food systems projects across Montana!

We’re looking for college students from all fields of study to serve as mentors. You don’t need to be an expert, just bring curiosity, a willingness to build relationships, and an interest in supporting young people.

As a mentor, you'll have opportunities to:
🌱 Support a high school eco club or student group
🤝 Help students develop a place-based community project
💡 Facilitate meetings and plan network events
📚 Share resources and lead educational activities
🌎 Connect students with community partners and opportunities
✨ Build your own skills in leadership, facilitation, mentorship, and community engagement

Mentors will receive training and ongoing support, connect with a statewide cohort of other college mentors, and have opportunities to participate in network gatherings and climate leadership activities.

The commitment is approximately 2–4 hours/week during the 2026–27 academic year, with academic credit available for eligible students.

Bulldozers in Big Bend National Park last week. The Roadless Rule rescinded this week. Two sides of the same coin.

This isn’t about access, forest health, or wildfire management — it’s a concerted push to open our public lands to industrial development, and it’s happening while the public isn’t looking.

The comment period is open now for the next 30 days. This is our window to push back.

City moves forward on stormwater fee, public hearing set

Sarah Stands, representing the Park County Environmental Council, addressed the commission before the vote.

“I think a lot can happen in a year or even by 2030,” Stands said. “Delaying these inevitable project costs for residents in the long run isn’t as fiscally responsible. [A stormwater system] really does provide the environmental and economic protections: the capture of sand, gravel, toxic roadway hydrocarbons before they reach the Yellowstone River. [It] protects fish, insects, waterfowl, downstream communities, and our tourism economy, and so what’s good for fish is also good for humans, too.”

The resolution calls for a public hearing to be held on the matter next month so residents can share their thoughts on the proposal. The hearing will be at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 1, according to the resolution. People can participate in person at 414 E. Callender St., or online. More information about how to participate online will be announced at a later date.

Livingston city commissioners laid the groundwork this week for a stormwater system and associated fee on property owners.

Such a fun volunteer opportunity! September 20 is race day.

Join the race day fun as a volunteer! Whether you'd rather cheer runners on at the start/finish line, help with packet pickup, staff an aid station, sweep the course on foot or bike, or help flag and set up before race day, there's a role for you.

All volunteers receive a race hat of their choice and lunch and beer (21+) at Chico Hot Springs. We couldn't do this race without volunteers, and you can feel good knowing that your efforts support the funds that this race generates for the non-profit, Park County Environmental Council.
