Today, August 21, 2026, in a Special Session the Polk County Commissioners Court continued the Declaration of Disaster due to the threat of wildfire for an additional thirty (30) days.
The Court issued an Order Prohibiting Outdoor Burning for 30 days.

Polk County Burn Ban in Effect
Today, August 14, 2026, County Judge Sydney Murphy, signed a Local Declaration of Disaster that includes an Order Prohibiting Outdoor Burning for the unincorporated areas of the County due to elevated fire weather conditions and the threat of wildfire.

Here on tribal property we have all kinds of wildlife that are constantly moving around searching for water during the heatwave. Thursday afternoon this 5 ft alligator made it's presence known in public and had to be removed.
ACFD Firefighter Reggie Sylestine along with ACPD officers Paul Arnold and Krista Hollingshead helped relocate this gator back in the wild of the Big Thicket. It was not harmed in any way...

This particular one was found in a parked vehicle...I kid you not...
Officer Donald Dyson managed to capture and release it unharmed back to it's natural habitat.
