The City of Livonia is proud to share that five members of our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) participated in this week’s full‑scale emergency preparedness exercise at Detroit Metro Airport. This FAA‑required drill, held every three years, brought together nearly 300 participants, including 170 volunteer role players, to simulate a large‑scale plane crash and test regional response capabilities.

Our own Emergency Preparedness Director, Brian Kahn, served as an evaluator for the exercise as part of the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (EMHSD) program. Livonia CERT volunteers worked alongside agencies from across the region, gaining valuable hands‑on experience that strengthens our community’s readiness for real‑world emergencies.

Livonia’s CERT program currently includes 30 trained volunteers who support our community year‑round. They do everything from assisting at the Livonia Spree and Holiday Parade to helping monitor downed power lines and other emergency needs. Their dedication makes them an essential part of our public safety team.

A heartfelt thank you to all CERT volunteers who give their time, energy, and compassion to keep Livonia safe and prepared.

The City of Livonia would like to share an important update from the Wayne County Department of Public Services.

Wayne County will resurface Six Mile Road between Middle Belt Road and Inkster Road beginning Friday, June 19. The project is expected to take approximately eight days, weather permitting.

From June 19-23, traffic on Six Mile Road will be reduced to one lane in the left lane direction through the work zone.

From June 24-27, traffic will be reduced to one lane in the right lane direction.

Drivers should expect lane reductions on portions of Middle Belt and Inkster roads, temporary turn restrictions, and closures of side street access points along Six Mile Road. Driveway access will remain available except for brief periods while fresh asphalt is being placed.

School buses and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the work zone.

Please plan ahead, use alternate routes when possible, and follow all posted traffic controls. We appreciate your patience as Wayne County completes these road improvements.

A small male mixed-breed dog was recently found near Washington Street and Wyoming, just south of Plymouth Road. He was wearing a blue collar but did not have any tags, and no microchip was found.

He is safe and being cared for while efforts are made to locate his family. If you recognize this pup or know who he belongs to, please contact Michigan Humane Society in Westland. Please share to help reunite him with his owner.

From the Livonia Police Department and Livonia Fire & Rescue: THANK YOU to our amazing community for making the 2026 Passport to Safety event a tremendous success!

It was wonderful to see so many families come out and spend the day learning, exploring, and having fun while gaining valuable safety knowledge. From bicycle and water safety to K-9 demonstrations, and hands-on activities throughout our 10 safety stations, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Seeing so many smiling faces throughout the day reminded us why Passport to Safety continues to be one of our favorite community events. We hope our young attendees left with important safety lessons they can carry with them throughout the year. A special thank you to our volunteers, sponsors, public safety partners, vendors, and community organizations who helped make this event possible. Your support allows us to provide this incredible experience for local families year after year. Keeping our children safe remains our top priority, and Passport to Safety is a fun and interactive way to help them learn important life-saving skills.

Thank you again, Livonia! We hope you enjoy these photos and videos from the event.
