Conference of Western Wayne

Conference of Western Wayne The Conference of Western Wayne (CWW) represents 700,000 residents and 100,000 businesses in eighteen communities in Western Wayne County, MI

The Conference of Western Wayne (CWW) is a non-profit association of 18 Western Wayne communities that works to enhance the quality of life and opportunity for its nearly 700,000 residents and 100,000 businesses. Led by a dynamic team of 18 city mayors and township supervisors, the CWW has worked in a nonpartisan fashion to find solutions to regional issues for more than 40 years. Key issues for t

he communities of Western Wayne County include public safety, 9-1-1, workforce development, transportation, youth services, and revenue sharing. The active involvement of the chief elected officials among our diverse collection of cities and townships has made CWW an effective organization since its inception in 1978. Monthly CWW meetings are hosted on a rotating basis throughout its member communities, giving CWW leaders a firm understanding of the entire 340 square mile region. The CWW Board regularly discusses major policy issues and adopts policy resolutions that can benefit citizens and businesses across the region, with a special emphasis on issues that can be addressed with the unified voice of its 18 member communities. The Conference utilizes this philosophy in its dealings with county, state and federal elected officials. The CWW Board and Staff also work regularly to expand collaborative efforts with the community and business leaders of Michigan through regular communication, meetings and social events. CWW cities are Belleville, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Garden City, Inkster, Livonia, Northville, Plymouth, Wayne and Westland. CWW townships are Canton, Huron, Northville, Plymouth, Redford, Sumpter and Van Buren.

Last night we celebrated SEMCA's 30th Anniversary with many of our Wayne County friends. Long standing CWW Board Member, Jack O'Reilly, started SEMCA 30 years ago and the organization has been in equally good hands with Greg Pitoniak since 2007. SEMCA has helped so many of our residents with workforce development and has been a seeing CWW partner in all of its 30 years.

Congratulations to all. A special thank you to Al Haidous and Charlie Mahoney for their years of serve to SEMCA and its governing agencies!

From Romulus Mayor Robert McCraight.

STATEMENT FROM MAYOR ROBERT A. McCRAIGHT ON UNSUBSTANTIATED REPORTS OF ICE FACILITY IN ROMULUS

There have been unsubstantiated reports circulating on social media indicating that certain sites located within the City of Romulus either have been or may be selected for use as a possible ICE detention center. My administration takes this issue very seriously and is opposed to any such operation being located within the City of Romulus. We are currently examining all legal options available to protect Romulus as well our residents. We have investigated the sites that have been reported as "possible” detention centers and have found nothing that would substantiate the current rumors. We are also in direct contact with our representatives at the Federal and State level who have been extremely cooperative and helpful in addressing this issue. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will advise accordingly should we discover any additional intent to house such an operation within our community.

Week one of the trial regarding stopping the Manhattan Project radioactive waste from being brought ton Wayne County.

Radioactive Waste Update as of February 6, 2026: The legal battle over bringing radioactive waste to a local landfill has reached a critical stage this week as we continue to fight to keep our residents and the Great Lakes protected and healthy. The coalition of local governments – including Canton Township, Van Buren Township, Belleville, Romulus and Wayne County is continuing the legal fight to stop the further shipment of radioactive waste to our state. The current trial is expected to determine whether these shipments can ever be accepted in Michigan, protecting the surrounding environment and the Great Lakes – where 21% of the world’s fresh water exists. Find additional information in the following planetdetroit.org article written by Brian Allnut where former Detroit and Wayne County health official Abdul El-Sayed testifies about the health risks posed by Manhattan Project radioactive waste.

Growth Works CEO Nick Griswold and CWW Executive Director Jordyn Sellek presented to the Michigan House of Representatives Subcommittee on Human Services Rescue Recovery program and the thousands of lives it has touched. Since 2018, our coaches have been helping break the cycle of addiction, meeting clients where they are at and getting them connected to treatment and support. We respond 24/7, 365 days of the year and have a 45 minute response time to those who want to meet with a coach. Our coaches are kind, compassionate and use their lived experience to show individuals they are not alone on this journey. To view the testimony, visit Michigan House TV.
