Don't forget that tonight kicks off a week and weekend of July 4th fun! Join Llano County Historical Commission and the Llano Fine Art Guild & Gallery TONIGHT for an evening presentation exploring common causes and enduring connections, revealing how the United States, Texas, and Mexico -often viewed through separate historical lenses- were shaped by many of the same forces, ambitions, and aspirations that transformed North America. Mr Ben Friberg kicks off the America 250 Celebration in Llano tonight at 5:30pm in the Llano Fine Arts Gallery located at 503 Bessemer in Llano. Refreshments can be enjoyed as you listen to Mr. Friberg, as well as viewing patriotic artwork by Fine Art Guild members.

Today's Member Spotlight is Llano County Historical Commission! Llano County Historical Commission is a local branch of the Texas Historical Commission. While Llano County Historical Commission charted in the mid-1960s, the modern county historical commission framework was established by Texas state legislation in 1973. This act transformed historical commissions into the permanent, official advisory and preservation commissions that we know today.

The Llano County Historical Commission is composed of members representing various areas of the county. They meet regularly to plan programs and events that educate the public about the history of Llano and are strong partners with the city of Llano and Llano County to preserve Llano’s history. The Llano County Historical Commission (LCHC) also manages the applications for state and local historical markers across Llano County.

Currently, they are working on a book of Llano County historical homes, set for publication in November to be available for purchase in early December. This beautiful book will capture original photos, current photos and the history of the homes and occupants that are part of the varied past of Llano County. A member will reach out to you to schedule an interview and photography session for the upcoming book!

Llano County Historical Commission has various educational programs and projects available to the public. They completed a four page brochure on early public schools from 1852-1948 still standing in Llano County.
