Books need to belong to someone or they get yellow and warped. Right now the library has more books than shelving. Instead of letting them die a painful death, we encourage you to drop by, meet the staff, and take several books home to love. They are free to keep. For real.

Our Story

Loachapoka is a town which lies 5 miles west of Auburn, AL. Highway 14 (Stage Road) runs right through the middle of the town. One of the most recognizable buildings is the Loachapoka Community Center. It used to be the main schoolhouse for Loachapoka. As with most of the old schoolhouses, it has a large auditorium in the center of the building flanked with classrooms on either end. The auditorium is usually booked on the weekend for weddings, baby showers, graduation parties, and birthday parties. The library, which has internet connected computers and books for all ages is located in the old classrooms. The Friends of Loachapoka Public Library, Inc. (FOLPL) was formed as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to raise tax-exempt support for the library. The board of FOLPL is comprised of five members who help with fundraising and planning for the future of the library.
