12.28.2024. I'm rereading the Theodore Boone series, a young reader book series by John Grisham. This time, I'm listening to the audiobooks, narrated by Richard Thomas, who is remembered for playing the role of John Boy in the TV series, "The Waltons" shown in the 1970s and 1980s. What a treat to hear his voice!

I downloaded the audiobooks for free from reads.overdrive.com, which is available to all Tennesseans who have a public library card. I use the Libby app on my mobile phone to listen. Other states probably have something similar for their public library patrons.

Many thanks to the Tennessee General Assembly for funding this important service. Free public library services are vital! Don't take them for granted.

Not everyone is able to purchase computers, printers, scanners, home Internet access, and any book needed for pleasure reading or for educational pursuits. Public libraries are an important part of the community.

9.14.24. I'm starting on audiobook #4 in Lorna Barrett's cozy Booktown Mystery series. Available for FREE to Tennessee public library cardholders at Reads.overdrive.com. There are ebooks, audiobooks, children's titles, and magazines available. Check out this wonderful resource made possible by the Tennessee State Library ( sos.tn.gov/tsla ).

I use the Libby app, which is available for download at the site. If you don't live in Tennessee, I'm sure your state has something similar.

8.30.24. FINALLY! I've waited a couple of months for this very popular book by James Herriot to be available...and there are 14 other people on the waiting list! It is worth the wait, and I've listened to a dozen other audiobooks in the meantime. Not all books have a waiting list. This series is being televised on the PBS stations, making it extremely popular.

This is the only audiobook left about the Yorkshire veterinary surgeon that I've not had a chance to hear this year. I read the actual books many years ago, and decided to listen to the audiobooks this year. The narrator is very talented, making my return visit to this series delightful. Reads.overdrive.com is the place to go with your Tennessee public library card to get free ebooks and audiobooks. If you live in another state, they have something similar. I use the Libby app on my phone to access the books. Isn't the public library system a wonderful thing?

Happy New Year! We have a special gift for you!

Through this partnership, TDOE and GELF want to encourage at-home reading practice to help young learners become stronger readers outside of the classroom, especially during the winter months and holidays while families are at home.

Based on a child’s grade level, they will receive
• 7 At-Home Decodable Book Series, which contain 20+ exciting stories full of sounds and words to practice
• Age-appropriate high-quality books from Scholastic.

How to Order
All Tennessee families can order one booklet pack for each of their kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students at this link, which can also be found below. The order will be delivered to the mailing address provided and fulfilled in the order it was received.
