The Luling tax office and the Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace office will be closed until 2 p.m. today so that staff can attend the service of investigator Ryan McKnight.

This Monday, we will come together to celebrate the life of our friend and Investigator Ryan McKnight.

We invite our community to join Ryan’s family, friends, fellow law-enforcement officers and first responders as we remember his life, his service, and the many lives he touched along the way.

Caldwell County's heat advisory has been extended through 7 p.m. Wednesday, with high temperatures up to 105 expected.

Stay safe by:

Drinking plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun, and checking up on relatives and neighbors.

Taking extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9-1-1.

Aalo Atomics confirmed on Thursday, Aug. 20 that the company has no plans to continue a project to build a testing site near McMahan.

The company halted construction after being advised that it could not continue work on the site until it obtained a commercial water well permit from Plum Creek Conservation District and a septic permit from Caldwell County.

Businesses operating in unincorporated areas of the county must obtain these permits and pass inspection to determine whether the building or buildings comply with the Caldwell County Fire Code.

A Heat Advisory will go into effect for Caldwell County and most of Central Texas beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday, 8/20 through Sunday. 8/23. Temperatures up to 104 and heat index values up to 110 are expected.

Chief EMC Hector Rangel and Deputy Chief EMC Joann Garza-Mayberry are the hardworking duo who keep things moving and help keep the community safe at the Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management. Caldwell County commissioners proclaimed August 2026 as National Emergency Management Month at their August 13 meeting to honor what their office does for the community, which includes developing emergency plans, conducting training exercises, educating the public on disaster readiness, and establishing critical partnerships with Texas Division of Emergency Management, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and other government agencies, volunteer organizations, and the private sector.

We encourage all citizens, businesses, and organizations to join us in recognizing the vital work of emergency managers who work diligently to prepare, protect, and serve our community against all hazards and risks, and to take this opportunity to enhance their own personal and organizational preparedness plans.
