Jimmy Hernandez - Name Our School Nomination

This is outrageous. There were several candidates aside from Uncle Jimmy that were nominated. I had the pleasure of hearing their life stories and they were beautiful. However, the LISD School Board motioned to name it after the street that the school will be built on. The reasoning behind this decision was to keep it location based so it’s easier to find. They also mentioned they didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings over the name nominations if a specific name isn’t picked. If the School Board was going to do this all along, why ask for nominations from the public in the first place? I thought this was the community’s choice.

On May 13, 2024 the LISD board of trustees voted to name the new elementary school Borchert Loop Elementary! The Board is thankful for all 199 nominations shared. Borchert Loop Elementary is slated to open with students in August of 2025!

Nominations closed on April 5, 2024. In total, 199 community members submitted a nomination! We are so grateful to have such an engaged community.

The next step: The Board of Trustees will cast their votes for the school name at the May 13, 2024 board meeting.

Tomorrow is the deadline to submit Jimmy’s Name for the name of our new elementary!! His full name is Santiago Rios Hernandez.

The Lockhart Independent School District Board of Trustees is now accepting nominations for the naming of elementary school #6, located at 3200 Borchert Loop, Lockhart, TX 78644.

All nominations must be submitted through the form at lockhartisd.org/NameOurSchool.

Nominations are open until noon on Friday, April 5, 2024.

All nominations will be presented to the Board of Trustees for consideration. Thank you for your input!
