It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of K9 Trace. She did so much great work for the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and our community, and she will be deeply missed. I’ll especially miss rubbing those big ears. My sincere condolences to Special Deputy Joe Moll on the loss of a truly special K9.

SCAM ALERT: Fraudulent Calls Regarding Missed Court Dates

We have received several reports of scammers posing as Niagara County Sheriff's Office employees. They claim that you missed a court appearance or have an outstanding warrant and threaten arrest unless you immediately pay a fine. In many cases, they will pressure victims to purchase gift cards or provide financial information.

Keep these tips in mind:

•Law enforcement will never demand payment over the phone to avoid arrest.

•Courts and police agencies will not ask you to pay with gift cards.

•Be suspicious of anyone requesting wire transfers, banking information, or other financial details.

•Do not provide personal or financial information to an unsolicited caller.

•If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately. If you are worried that you may be a victim of fraud, contact your local police agency (716-438-3393 for NCSO).

Scammers often rely on fear and urgency to convince people to act before they have time to verify the information. When in doubt, slow down, contact your local police agency to verify the claim, and do not send money.

Please share this information with friends, family, and others in the community to help prevent someone from becoming a victim.

How many people remember this? I wonder if the NYS Attorney General threatened her with legal action in 2007...
The hypocrisy from Albany is stunning.

NEW YORK, NY – Yesterday, Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul attempted to walk back a statement she made 10 years ago as Erie County Clerk on driver’s licenses for immigrant New Yorkers.

Published in the New York Times on November 4th, 2007, “‘I do not support the governor’s plan to give driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants,’ she said to whooping cheers and applause. ‘I have a problem with that, ladies and gentlemen.’ Ms. Hochul went a step further. If anyone comes to the main clerk’s office seeking a license with a foreign passport but without a valid visa stamp, Ms. Hochul said, she will process the application — and then pass the person’s name on to the county sheriff as a possible violator of immigration law.”
