Listen up, folks. We want to address something! Last night on Market Street, several vehicles plowed through an active scene —cones down, lights flickering, the whole works. Not cool. Worse yet this behavior trend is being reported by all platoons from daily operations.
Fire scenes are dynamic places. 8-10% of firefighter fatalities happen after a vehicle strikes crews on the roadside. Our attention is split between the incident , the building, and public safety, not the road. If you’re driving by, please remember:
Be patient. If you can, pick a different route. Definitely Avoid the lane with cones.
-If you must pass, slow to a crawl. Treat it like a school zone.
-put your phone down.
-Follow directions from any of us on the scene. We’re trying to keep you and us alive.
What you can do
-Plan ahead to avoid active incidents when possible.
-Give wide clearance to emergency vehicles and personnel.
-Don’t assume “just a quick pass” won’t cause harm—because it can.
We appreciate the support, and we’d rather you reach your destination safely than deal with the legal, moral, and emotional consequences of a *very preventable risk* . Drive cautiously, follow the crew’s directions, and help us keep everyone safe.
