Residents of Niagara County, New York know all too well the negative impact gratuitous government spending has on their personal bottom lines. Alongside Erie County, Niagara County has the highest property taxes of the entire state of New York, yet raising taxes to record highs has not served to pull local governments out of bankruptcy. In addition, New Yorkers are second only to Washington D.C. as having the most oppressive gun laws in the nation. The two major political parties are more interested in attaining power and favor for their financial backers than serving their constituents. It's time for us to stop looking to politicians and government for the answer and instead look within.
