**Candidate Spotlight of the Week**

This week, we are proud to present John Connor, candidate for Will County Circuit Judge

Born and raised in Joliet, John graduated from Joliet Catholic high school, and subsequently the University of Notre Dame, going to law school at the University of Illinois in Champaign. After working briefly for a law firm on the island of Saipan, near Guam, he returned to Will County permanently in 1997 as his younger brother Matt was losing his battle with malignant melanoma. He then joined the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor, leaving for a brief time to be an Assistant Attorney General in the High Tech Crimes Bureau of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.

Connor used his experience with digital forensics from training and County prosecutions as well as his Illinois AAG experience to design guidelines for the State’s Attorney’s Computer Crimes Unit, which executed over 100 search warrants and obtained convictions for child exploitation crimes. He also oversaw state wiretap operations, state overhears, and cold case investigation. An advocate of the grand jury as a citizen’s tool for justice, he presented many investigations and their witnesses to grand juries for their assistance and involvement during his tenure as a prosecutor.

John then went on to serve two terms as a State Representative for the 85th District of Illinois, which encompasses much of north-central Will County. During his time in the Illinois House of Representatives, his legislative priorities included improving how we fund our schools, improving health insurance coverage statewide, continuing criminal justice reform, restoring and improving the Will County transportation infrastructure, and improving high speed Internet access for all Illinoisans.

John decided to run for State Senator of the 43rd District of Illinois in the 2020 election. He won and served in that capacity until 2022, where he fought to improve the lives of his constituents and all Illinoisans. In the Senate, John served as chair of the Criminal Law Committee as well as vice-chair of the Judiciary Committee. Sen. Connor currently serves on the Financial Institutions, Healthcare Access and Availability, Human Rights, and Pensions Committees.

John lives in Lockport with his wife Julie, their children Colin, Jack and Charlie, and their golden retriever Circe.

**Candidate Spotlight of the Week**

This week, we are proud to present Scott Pointon, candidate for Will County Board District 5, who is also having a fundraiser this week!

Get to know him below, and come out and support him on Thursday

Scott and his wife Sandi have lived in Lockport Township for nearly 16 years. He is the proud parent of three children and three step children! The two boys are the oldest and youngest while the four girls are in the middle. All six children are either college graduates or soon will be, with three of the children having attended Joliet Junior College before transferring to other schools to finish their degrees. Scott comes from a large family himself (he is the youngest of seven children) and appreciates the impact a vibrant community can have on family life.

He is also a proud six year veteran of the United States Marine Corps. In the course of his nearly 30 year career working in public libraries, he earned a bachelor’s degree in History from Purdue University and a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Indiana University. Currently he is the Director of the White Oak Library District, which proudly serves Crest Hill, Lockport, Romeoville, and many surrounding unincorporated areas.

Scott has dedicated his entire adult life to public service in one form or another and has spent decades providing public services and helping people live better lives. He is especially proud of the assistance he and his fellow Crest Hill Lions have provided to many local causes, including the Will County Child Advocacy Center, the Northern Illinois Food Bank, and the Joliet Area Community Hospice among many others.

Locally, Scott has served in leadership roles in the Crest Hill Lions Club (current president), the Crest Hill Chamber of Commerce (current Board member), and the Romeoville Chamber of Commerce (past Chair and current Board member). He has also served for many years on the Lockport Downtown Development Committee, the Lockport Old Canal Days Planning Committee, and the Lockport Summer Arts Series Committee. Scott has also served on many regional and statewide library boards and committees, spoken at national conferences, and co-authored a book about library outreach services in 2009.

Scott is eager to bring his years of experience and knowledge into service on the Will County Board. He is motivated to connect the many senior citizens in his district to County services, address truck traffic on our roads, and fight to guarantee a living wage to all those who choose to work full time.

He appreciates your support and asks for your vote on the November 8th, 2022 General Election.

**Candidate Spotlight of the Week**

The Lockport Township Democratic Organization is proud to have several Democratic candidates run for office in this election cycle. Our first candidate we would like to highlight is Sherry Williams, who is running for Will County Board - District 5. Get to know her below!

Sherry Williams grew up in unincorporated Lockport Township. She graduated from Fairmont Grade School in Lockport Township, St. Francis Academy (now JCA), Joliet, IL and she earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Illinois State University, Normal, IL. Now retired, Sherry worked for the Will County Sheriff’s Department for 35 years, first as a Police Dispatcher at the Laraway Road Police Station, and then as a Classification Specialist at the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Sherry is a Union Activist who was the first woman and first African American to be elected as President of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 1028, which represents over 1000 Will County Employees. She held that position for 12 consecutive years. She also served as Vice President, Trustee and Steward of Local 1028. Sherry is currently on the Executive Board of AFSCME Retirees Subchapter 73.

After retiring in 2018, Sherry’s desire to actively participate in and contribute to her community led to her involvement in local politics. She was appointed Precinct Committeeperson for Lockport Township Precinct 19 in 2019 as well as Lockport Township Collector in February 2020. In the March 2020 election, she was elected Precinct Committeeperson for Lockport Township Precinct 21 and then reelected in the June 2022 election.

Sherry believes in government “by the people” and as District 5 Will County Board member, she will work to address the needs and concerns of the people she represents. Her focus will be on improving the quality of life for the residents of Will County. She will be a voice for the people.
