The City of Lockport Public Works Department is out clearing trees from roads.

🌪️ Outdoor Warning Sirens: Know Their Purpose

With the recent activations of our Outdoor Warning Siren System, we'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone what these sirens are, and just as importantly, what they are not.

Outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert people who are outdoors that dangerous weather is approaching and that they should seek shelter immediately. Once inside, residents should monitor reliable sources for additional information and instructions.

The sirens are not intended to be your primary warning method when you are indoors. While some people may hear the sirens inside their home or business, many factors, including distance, building construction, insulation, closed windows, air conditioning, and even heavy rain or wind, can make them difficult or impossible to hear indoors.

For that reason, every household should have multiple ways to receive severe weather warnings, including:

📱 Wireless Emergency Alerts on your cell phone
📻 A NOAA Weather Radio
📺 Local television or radio
🌐 Trusted weather apps and National Weather Service alerts

The National Weather Service often compares a NOAA Weather Radio to a smoke detector for severe weather because it provides timely alerts day or night, even while you're sleeping.

Remember:

🔹 If you hear an outdoor warning siren, seek shelter indoors immediately.
🔹 Once inside, monitor trusted sources for additional information.
🔹 Do not rely on outdoor warning sirens as your only means of receiving severe weather warnings.

Having multiple ways to receive emergency alerts helps ensure you'll receive critical warning information regardless of where you are or what time of day severe weather strikes.

Outdoor warning sirens remain an important part of our community's emergency notification system, but they are only one part of a layered warning strategy. Being prepared means having several reliable ways to receive warnings so you can take action quickly when seconds matter.

Stay weather aware, have a safety plan, and make sure your family knows where to take shelter before severe weather arrives.

Until 115 PM CDT.

At 1209 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Downers Grove, moving southeast at 30 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.

This dangerous storm will be near... Bolingbrook, Woodridge, Lemont, Burr Ridge, Darien, and Willow Springs around 1215 PM CDT. Orland Park and Homer Glen around 1225 PM CDT.

Other locations in the path of this tornadic thunderstorm include Tinley Park, Mokena, Frankfort, Frankfort Square, Matteson, Country Club Hills, Richton Park, Olympia Fields and Park Forest.

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Warning Siren System Maintenance

Today, regular maintenance will be performed on our outdoor warning siren system.

As part of this testing, residents may hear individual warning sirens activated for short periods of time as technicians verify that each siren is operating properly. This is a routine maintenance procedure, and there is no cause for alarm.

If severe weather develops during the maintenance period, all testing will stop immediately to ensure the warning siren system is fully available if needed. In the event of an actual emergency, the system will return to its normal activation, with the full network of sirens sounding the standard long warning wail.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to keep our warning siren system reliable and ready to protect our community.

🚗 IMPORTANT PARKING NOTICE

Parking at Dellwood Park is very limited. Parking lots are typically full shortly after 8:00 PM.

👉 Once parking lots are full, they will be closed. Please arrive early if you want to park on-site.

✅ You may park on nearby side streets if parking is not prohibited by posted signs and your vehicle does not block traffic or create a hazard.

🚧 After the fireworks, some side streets around the park will be temporarily closed or converted to one-way traffic to help move vehicles out efficiently and keep pedestrians safe.

Please drive carefully and watch for people walking in or along the roadway, especially small children.

📍 Please follow all posted signs and directions from event staff.

🎇 Enjoy the show - and have a safe night in Lockport!

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms will move south and east into parts of the region this morning. Damaging wind gusts and brief, torrential rainfall are the main threats with this activity. A brief tornado can't be ruled out.

CANAL DAYS FIREWORKS ADVISORY!

PARENTS, if you plan on picking your children up from Canal Days AFTER 9:30pm tonight, you MUST come North on Canal Street (from 9th Street) to get to the pickup zone. 2nd Street will be ONE WAY going OUT of the fest.

CANAL STREET will be ONE WAY going NORTH towards 2nd Street. Use the LEFT side of the street (southbound lane) for waiting. Do not block driveways or the right lane. NO U-Turns!!

When you have your kids, use the RIGHT lane (northbound) to leave. Head NORTH to 2nd, turn right, exit on to STATE.

These directions apply to ALL pickups AFTER 9:30 pm tonight - family, kids, AND ride-shares.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY #3

Canal Street will temporarily close at 5th Street to NORTHBOUND traffic around 7:30 pm tonight to reduce traffic in the west-side residential area following the parade.

ALL traffic heading to the Old Canal Days Festival MUST enter from 2nd and State.

Canal Street will be reopened once the surge in traffic following the parade has been handled.
