A Red Flag Warning continues for North Alabama including the Locust Fork area!

Update 830pm 3/29/2026: The fire has consumed approximately 120 acres and is still within the fire breaks. This fire will likely take several days to fully extinguish as there is no indication of rain for the next couple of days. There are several stumps and small debris burning within the already burned area. Those are not of major concern at this time. If you see fire that is not surrounded by already burned materials, please call 911. As stated on many social media outlets, refrain from outdoor burning until weather conditions allow it to be done safely.

As of 645 this morning, the Tucker Mountain fire is 100% contained and most of the way burned through. Please use caution in this area as personnel will continue to monitor changing weather conditions and fire breaks. If you plan to be outside today, please keep in mind the affected area will continue to smolder and smoke until hot spot areas are addressed. We will share more information about this incident as time allows. Thank you to everyone for being patient as responders across this county assist with this incident.

With forecasts calling for elevated wind speeds and a dry front passage across the state, the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) strongly discourages any outdoor burning until conditions improve. The agency also points to dropping relative humidity and an increase in wind speed on Saturday as especially concerning.

📢AFC URGING CAUTION AGAINST WILDFIRES📢

With forecasts calling for elevated wind speeds and a dry front passage across the state, the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) strongly discourages any outdoor burning until conditions improve. The agency also points to dropping relative humidity and an increase in wind speed on Saturday as especially concerning.

With the anticipation of critical fire weather conditions, AFC is issuing a Fire Danger Advisory on Friday, March 27. The potential for critical fire weather elevates on Saturday, March 28, increasing the threat issued to a Fire Alert. By Sunday, March 29, the potential for critical fire weather decreases slightly, lowering the threat issued to a Fire Danger Advisory.

The combination of these conditions creates a greater-than-average potential for outdoor fires to escape easily and spread rapidly, taking longer – and more of the agency’s firefighting resources – to contain and ultimately control. Fast-moving wildfires not only destroy property and forests but also threaten the lives of citizens and endanger firefighters.

Prescribed burn permits will be limited to only Certified Prescribed Burn Managers on Friday. Permits for outdoor burning will not be issued to anyone on Saturday. The AFC plans to resume regular permit issuing on Sunday, March 29, provided improved weather conditions. Anyone who burns a field, grassland, or woodland without a burn permit may be subject to prosecution for committing a Class B misdemeanor.

In the last seven days, 147 wildfires have burned approximately 5,600 acres of forestland across the state. This includes a large wildfire in Wilcox County (963 acres), one for 464 acres in Montgomery County, one for 505 acres in Marengo, and four others over 200 acres in Choctaw, Covington, Etowah, and Walker counties.

The Alabama Forestry Commission is the state agency committed to protecting Alabama’s invaluable forest assets as well as its citizens. To report a wildfire, call (800) 392-5679. For more information on the current wildfire situation in the state or any other forestry-related issues, contact your local AFC office or visit the agency website.

The Alabama Forestry Commission URGING CAUTION AGAINST WILDFIRES

03/16/2026

The shelter located at 32 Townhall Road is unlocked. Remember, no animals are permitted and do not block the way for others or the department bay doors. Also, be mindful of stretched resources throughout Blount County tonight. Shall a storm produce damage to an area, crews will be in their respective jusridictions assessing and managing risks as resources allow. If you encounter a blocked or flooded roadway, find an alternate route rather than putting yourself in danger. Thank you and stay safe tonight.

(Share) SB269 passed the Senate but some opposition (NOT BCBS) is trying to kill it in the House. The true facts are in picture below. The video link of the bad practice is in the comments . BCBS is not fighting this bill, valuing public safety and protecting its members from balance billing. Call your local Representative today to get this bill passed.

🚨 Blount County Fire Departments Need Volunteers — Now More Than Ever 🚨

Our local fire departments are struggling to find volunteers, and the need is real.

You might think, “I can’t enter a burning building.”
That’s okay — not everyone does.

Maybe you can:
• Run medical calls
• Help clear trees from roadways
• Assist citizens during emergencies
• Support operations behind the scenes

And if you’re thinking, “I can’t handle blood,” there’s still a place for you. Fire departments need people with all kinds of skills, abilities, and comfort levels. There truly is a role for everyone.

If you’ve ever considered serving your community, now is the time. Reach out to your local fire department and ask how you can help.

Just remember this one question:

“What if no one answered the call?”

Your community is counting on someone to step up. Maybe that someone is you.

Confirming there is a wreck on HWY 79 at Fred Terry Rd involving a school bus that has rolled on it's side. There are only minor injures. Per Superintendent Green, for all children not transported to the hospital, an additional bus is transporting them to the school for reunification with parents. Parents are asked to go to the school and not the scene. We encourage everyone to avoid the area as the Fire Department treats the injuries and law enforcement investigates the crash. HWY 79 will be closed until that is completed. Please pray for all involved.
