We were honored to recognize our Service Scholarship recipient, Stella Bondurant. Stella is currently pursuing a degree in Nursing at Western Carolina University. We congratulate Stella and wish her continued success as she prepares for a career dedicated to caring for others.

Carmen’s guest speaker was Jordan Whitley from Faith Alive Ministries. Faith Alive Ministries focuses on serving widows and orphans, supporting orphan programs in both Kenya and India.

Locally, the ministry assists widows throughout Stanly County by connecting them with volunteers who can help with yard work and small home maintenance projects. Their support group, Women of Purpose, offers weekly gatherings at various times and locations to encourage fellowship and support.

Jordan also shared how Faith Alive Ministries has helped streamline the process of certifying foster families and operates a Dream House where children in the custody of Social Services can stay in a safe and caring environment. Our club was pleased to present a $100 donation to support their mission.

Join us on Thursday morning June 4 at the meeting of Rotary West Stanly (7:00 Locust Presbyterian Church) when Jordan Whitley from Faith Alive Ministry will talk about their work with the Dream House.

🏡 HELP @ THE DREAM HOUSE 🏡

The Dream House is more than a building—it’s a place of hope, healing, and hospitality for families in our community. Right now, we need your help to get it ready for what’s ahead!

We’re looking for volunteers to jump in and help with some important upkeep and beautification projects:

✨ Inside the House
Deep cleaning (kitchens, bathrooms, floors, surfaces)
Window washing (inside & out)

🌿 Outside the Property
Weeding flower beds and landscaping areas
Trimming bushes and overgrowth
Spreading brick chips

Whether you can give an hour or a full day, every bit of help makes a difference.

This is a hands-on way to serve widows, orphans, and families who will walk through these doors in the future—and help create a space that feels peaceful, welcoming, and cared for.

Congratulations to Rotarian Dave Emrich on graduating from the Stanly County Chamber’s Leadership Stanly Class of 2026!

Leadership Stanly is designed to develop and connect current and emerging leaders throughout our county, and we’re proud to see Dave complete this outstanding program.

As if graduation wasn’t enough, Dave also took home the class superlative for “Most Likely to Run for Public Office!” 🤣 We aren’t sure if that’s a prediction or a warning, but we’re keeping an eye on future ballots just in case!

Congratulations, Dave, on this well-deserved accomplishment and recognition. Thank you for your leadership, service, and dedication to making Stanly County a better place.

Julie’s guest was Bonnie S. McDonald, author of Firm Foundation: Resilience After Trauma. (Link in the comments)

Bonnie shared the powerful story behind her book, recounting the traumatic experience of her 14-year-old son suffering a cardiac arrest and collapsing during a sporting event in 2013. Through faith, perseverance, and resilience, her family navigated that difficult journey. Today, her son is 27 years old, married, and has a family of his own.

Firm Foundation: Resilience After Trauma is written for those who have experienced loss, upheaval, or deep disappointment and are searching for stability and hope. The book offers encouragement and practical insights for rebuilding life after trauma, whether readers are in the midst of a struggle or learning to move forward after one.

The book will be released on June 18 and will be available in paperback for $17.99 and Kindle format for $9.99. Those interested in learning more may contact Bonnie directly at [email protected].

Our club will be making a $100 donation in Bonnie’s honor. Thank you, Bonnie, for sharing your inspiring story and reminding us that resilience can grow from even life’s most difficult challenges.

Don forgot to call his guest speaker so Rotarian Candice filled in!!

Candice shared several exciting updates happening around Stanly County!

First, she highlighted the ongoing United Way raffle, “Power of the Purse.” For just $1, you have a chance to win a Louis Vuitton purse valued at more than $2,000! Be sure to bring an extra dollar or two to next week’s meeting if you’d like to participate or see flyer posted here.

Candice also spoke about the Leadership Stanly program. This nine-month program gives participants an in-depth look at our community through one full-day session each month. Topics include Education, History, Community, and more, while also providing opportunities to connect with 30–40 current and emerging leaders from across Stanly County. Applications for the next class will be available soon, and Candice will share additional information as it becomes available.
