CRT is a red herring argument. Teachers do not have the time, nor the inclination to teach this subject in K-12th. As a school board trustee, I will focus on the issues that impact the classrooms on a daily basis. My focus will be on working to provide opportunities for the students of Lodi, not trying to ban books, nor trying to fight the next conspiracy driven idea to come down the pike!

Concerns about CRT — which had been a flashpoint in the election that Republican Glenn Youngkin won — have dried up since January.

So listening to Republican voters, CRT and student indoctrination is a problem. As a classroom teacher, I can assure you, we are not teaching CRT, we are not trying to raise other people’s children, we are not trying to ”recruit” students to explore their sexuality. What we are doing is doing our best to include parents in their children’s education, we are trying to help students become college eligible/career ready, we are trying to be inclusive of all students, regardless of how they come to our classrooms.

I just had a conversation with a coworker about doing what is right, even when it is no popular or if it may cost you something tangible. I have a track record of doing the right thing, even when it is not popular or beneficial for me. I will represent all students and I will do what is right, even if it is not popular.

I’m sitting at the airport wait to fly to Los Angeles to start my final year on CTA’s State Council. I am proud of the work I’ve done to promote and improve public education. It is important work and I hope to continue that work as a trustee of Lodi Unified. It is my goal that students become the center of everything we do. It is my hope that every student in Lodi, and California, receive the free education needed for them to reach their dreams and their goals.

Ballots were sent out last week. First of all, I hope everyone does vote. If you live within Lodi USD's Area 3, I humbly ask you consider voting for me. I will advocate for all students in Lodi Unified and I will fight to ensure each student has the opportunities they need to succeed now and in their future. Furthermore, I will work to ensure all employees are fairly compensated and well trained to meet the challenges they face everyday in our schools.
