Ever wanted to be a volunteer firefighter. Lodi fire department and area departments are actively looking for new firefighters that live locally and want to serve their community. New firefighters are needed for a firefighter class at Medina County Career Center that starts at the end of July.

Below is a brief description of a volunteer Firefighter

Primary Functions

*Respond to fire and other emergency calls to protect life and property under the direction of the Fire Chief or commanding officer of the Fire Department including but not limited to:
*Responding to fire alarms.
*Assisting in fire suppression, rescue, entry, ventilation, and salvage.
*Assisting in cleanup and overhaul after emergency calls.
*Assisting in checking, testing, and maintaining apparatus and equipment.
*Responding to emergency calls which may involve various functions such as extrication, control of hazardous materials, etc.
*Performing other tasks as assigned by the Fire Chief or officer in charge.

Requirements for Lodi fire Department
*Either residency within the village of Lodi, Harrisville township or a surrounding township.
*Possession of valid Ohio driver's license.
*Minimum 18 years of age.
*High school graduation certificate or GED.
*Complete a 120 hour certified Ohio Firefighter course before or after hire and pass the State of Ohio test within one year of appointment.
*Annual compliance with the minimum required hours of training and alarm responses as stated in the Lodi fire dept. Rules and Regulations and by the State of Ohio.

Training is paid for by the fire department for those that live in the Village of Lodi or Harrisville township and are hired by Lodi fire department. Other area departments have similar requirements.

Our firefighters were out early this morning for a semi-trailer fire 🔥 on Willow Road, just west of Avon Lake Road. Lodi Fire was called at 4:06 am and responded with Engine 151-1.

This fire started as a brake fire while the driver was driving by the 76/71 interchange. Thank you to Westfield Fire and Rescue for assisting this morning with the fire.

The road is expected to be blocked by World Truck for a little while while they clean up the semi.

There were no injuries.

The Lodi Fire Department, in collaboration with Westfield Fire and Rescue, Seville-Guilford Fire & EMS, and the Lodi Police Department, participated in specialized training exercises utilizing the Ohio Fire Academy's Mobile Driving Simulator at their station on Wednesday and Thursday this week. The training was conducted by instructors from the Ohio State Fire Marshal Fire Academy.

Operating emergency vehicles is a critical task that demands precision and prudence, and the driving simulator provided realistic scenarios that required swift and informed decision-making, reinforcing adherence to laws and safe operating practices. This controlled environment allowed firefighters to gain valuable experience navigating adverse weather conditions, heavy traffic, and emergency situations without compromising safety.

This training represents a crucial investment in the departments, enhancing driver confidence, sharpening decision-making, and underscoring a commitment to safe operations and exceptional service.
