Lodi City Council to Appoint Taryn Jones as City Attorney 👏

Lodi, CA – Lodi City Council is set to appoint Taryn Jones as Lodi’s next City Attorney. Jones is an experienced municipal attorney with more than a decade of service in local government.

“I am humbled to be joining the great team in Lodi," said Jones. "Growing up in the Central Valley, I fell in love with this community, so it’s especially meaningful to have the opportunity to work for the place I have called home for the past seven years. I am honored to serve and look forward to proudly representing the City and its residents."

Jones began her municipal career with the City of Stockton City Attorney’s Office, first as an intern while attending law school and later as a Deputy City Attorney. She quickly advanced through the office, specializing in government transparency and public records laws, land use, and public contracting.

In June of 2024, Jones was appointed Stockton’s Assistant City Attorney, where she oversaw the office’s full advisory team. In that role, she played an integral part in a number of significant city projects, including the construction and opening of the city’s new Ursula Meyer Library and Community Center, as well as the drafting and implementation of municipal legislation, including Stockton’s Critical Infrastructure Ordinance.

In early 2026, Jones accepted the position of Stockton’s Acting City Attorney, where she led the city’s legal services and administration during a period of recruitment and transition.

“Taryn Jones brings extensive experience in municipal law, strong leadership and a genuine commitment to serving local organizations,” said Mayor Ramón Yepez. “As a resident of Lodi, she knows our community not only as a professional who will serve the City, but as a neighbor who has chosen to make Lodi home. That personal connection, combined with her knowledge and experience, makes her an excellent fit.”

Born and raised in Tracy, California, Jones earned her bachelor’s degree in legal studies and philosophy from UC Santa Cruz and her law degree from UC Hastings, now University of California College of the Law, San Francisco. She returned to the Central Valley to build her career serving cities and residents throughout San Joaquin County. When the time came for Jones and her husband to choose a community to call home, Lodi was their first and only choice.

Lodi City Council will vote on Jones’ appointment at its regular meeting on Wednesday, August 19.

At last night’s meeting, City Council recognized the courage, compassion, and outstanding teamwork of community members, City staff, and partner agencies in two separate incidents where their quick response and life-saving actions made all the difference.

In June, Lodi Fire Department crews responded to a residential structure fire in the 400 block of Harold Street that extended to a neighboring home and involved a downed, energized power pole. Mutual aid from Woodbridge Fire District and Waterloo Morada Fire District helped bring the fire under control within 20 minutes, with no civilian or firefighter injuries. Mayor Yepez & Council recognized the Lodi Fire Department and regional agencies for their rapid, coordinated response, Lodi Police Department officers and detectives who managed traffic control and secured the scene throughout the incident, and Lodi Electric Utility crews who worked alongside fire personnel to safely secure electrical equipment during active suppression.

At Lodi Lake in July, quick action from Lodi Parks & Recreation staff and community members made a life-saving difference for a resident suffering cardiac arrest. Council recognized Lodi Parks and Recreation staff Annabelle Ebbs (Head Guard), Andrew Kanas, Landon Shaw and Austin Bates (Lifeguards), and Emily Melton (Cashier), Lodi residents Chris and Camille Gillespie, who called 911 and retrieved a first aid kit, LaCrisa Black, a nursing assistant, who stepped in to provide care, and CenCal ambulance and Lodi Fire Engine 2031, who provided advanced life support and continued care during transport to Lodi Memorial Hospital.

Thank you to everyone involved for your quick thinking, professionalism and care for our community. ❤️
