🚸 SAFE ROUTE TO SCHOOL / PHASE 01 TRAILS UPDATE

Dustin Moores and his crew have been hard at work clearing trees as we prepare for the Safe Routes to School trail project—the first step toward a future community-wide trail system.

This project is made possible through nearly $1 million in Iowa DOT funding, along with generous local donations and city support for the required matching funds.

All final plans have been approved by the DOT and bidding is scheduled to begin in mid-April. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, bringing us one step closer to a safer more connected community.

Thank you Long Lines and Iowa Area Development Group for contributing to this much needed project and helping us reach our goal!

Pam Adams, Director of Business Development, was joined by Ethan Pitt of Iowa Area Development Group to present a $3,000 grant to the Logan Visioning Committee in support of their Safe Routes to School project. This amount was also matched by Long Lines. The Safe Routes to School project developed from Logan's participation in Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning Program, which will develop safe routes for students to walk to Logan-Magnolia Community Schools Panthers. To date, the Logan Visioning Committee has $1M pledged towards this project.

The Logan Iowa Community Foundation is proud to recognize **Mat** as this year’s **Volunteer of the Year!** 🎉👏

Mat has dedicated his time and energy to serving our community, a passion that began in his youth with the **Boy Scouts of America**, where he learned the importance of giving back. Since then, he has continued to make a lasting impact through his involvement in numerous local organizations.

A lifelong **Harrison County resident**, Mat and his wife **Jamie** have called their acreage south of Logan home for the past six years. They are proud parents to their son **Callen**, a 5th grader at Lo-Ma Elementary, as well as three adult children and three grandsons who keep life exciting!

Mat’s volunteer efforts span across many key community organizations, including:

Congratulations Craig, and thank you for your many years of service to our community and keeping us all safe!! Well deserved honor!

🚒 **Honoring Our First Responder of the Year: Craig Charbonneau!** 🚑

The Logan Community Foundation is proud to recognize **Craig Charbonneau** as this year’s **First Responder of the Year!** 👏

A lifelong resident of Logan, Craig has dedicated an **incredible 38 ½ years** to serving the residents of Harrison County. His journey in emergency services began in **1986**, inspired by his brothers, Lee and Rick. From his early days as a firefighter and first responder to earning his **EMT certification in 1992** and later becoming **EMS Chief**, Craig has been a steadfast leader in our community.

For the past **25 years**, Craig has served as the **Fire Chief of Logan Fire and Rescue Association**, leading efforts to enhance emergency response, fire prevention education, and youth involvement through the **cadet program**. His commitment has extended beyond emergency services—securing Logan-Magnolia’s **first AED**, organizing **disaster drills**, and ensuring **student-athlete safety at sporting events**.

Beyond his service, Craig has also contributed to the community through **coaching youth baseball and softball**, helping establish a **second youth wrestling tournament**, and working at **CF Industries in Blair, NE**, where he is part of the **safety/rescue team**.

Craig’s dedication wouldn’t be possible without the unwavering support of his **wife, Jacque, and their five children—Lindsey, Casey, Dane, Carrie, and Brady**. ❤️

Starting his journey as a middle school social studies teacher and coach, Jacob later became a school counselor and a secondary school principal before stepping into his current leadership role. His passion for education shines through his dedication to foster a positive, collaborative, and challenging environment that inspires both students and staff to be their best.

Outside of education, Jacob enjoys spending time with his family, serving at his local church, and working with his hands to build and create.
