Structure Fire – Automatic Aid Response

At 2:43 AM - May 29, Cora Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched as automatic aid to assist Verdunville Volunteer Fire Department with a reported structure fire on Dingess Mountain.

Engine 7 responded with a two-person crew, while Tanker 7 responded with a driver/operator.

Upon arrival, handlines had already been deployed by crews on scene. The Engine 7 crew immediately donned their turnout gear and joined firefighting operations. The incident involved an abandoned structure, with a nearby exposure structure that was also abandoned.

After arriving on scene, the Tanker 7 operator assisted Verdunville VFD with water supply operations and tanker support from the staging area.

Cora VFD crews remained on scene until operations were complete and returned to active service at 3:45 AM.

We would like to thank the Logan Emergency Ambulance Service Authority (LEASA) and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and support during this incident.

As always, Cora VFD stands ready to assist our neighboring departments whenever called upon. Strong partnerships and teamwork help keep our communities safe. 🚒🔥

🚑💙 EMS WEEK 2026 — DAY 3💙🚑

DID YOU KNOW?

LEASA crews respond to thousands of emergency calls each year across Logan County — providing advanced emergency medical care, rapid transport, standby coverage for major incidents, and mutual aid support to surrounding agencies.

From motor vehicle accidents and cardiac emergencies to structure fires and rescue operations, LEASA personnel are on the front lines 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their crews routinely work in difficult terrain, severe weather, and high-stress situations to ensure patients receive the care they need as quickly as possible.

Many people only see the ambulance arriving on scene — but behind every response is extensive training, long hours, continuing education, equipment preparation, and dedication to serving our communities.

Did you also know that the continued support of the Logan County EMS and Fire Bond Levy, voted on periodically by the citizens of Logan County, helps ensure this strong commitment to emergency medical care continues for our communities? The support shown by the people of Logan County plays a major role in helping maintain equipment, staffing, training, and emergency response capabilities throughout the county.

Cora Volunteer Fire Department is proud to stand alongside LEASA on emergency scenes throughout our area. We thank their EMTs, Paramedics, dispatchers, supervisors, and support staff for their commitment to the people of Logan County. 🚑🇺🇸

🚑💙 EMS WEEK 2026 💙🚑
“Honoring Those Who Answer the Call”

As EMS Week kicks off, the members of Cora Volunteer Fire Department would like to recognize and thank the incredible Emergency Medical Services personnel who serve our communities day and night without hesitation. Logan County’s crown jewel in our opinion is its emergency services!

From the first tones dropping to the moment patient care is transferred, these men and women are there during some of the hardest moments in a person’s life. Whether it’s a serious accident, medical emergency, structure fire, or rescue operation — EMS crews stand ready every single day.

This week, we especially want to recognize our local partners at LEASA and Air Evac Lifeteam 85. Their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the people of Southern West Virginia never go unnoticed.

We are proud to work alongside these crews on emergency scenes throughout our area. Thank you for the countless hours, sacrifices, late nights, missed holidays, and lifesaving care you provide to our communities.

Throughout EMS Week, we will also be sharing a series of “Did You Know?” posts featuring facts, history, and information about our local EMS services and the people behind them. We hope these posts help shine a light on the work these providers do for our communities every single day.

Please join us this week in thanking all EMS personnel for what they do every day. Your service truly makes a difference. 🚑🇺🇸
