A cold front brings the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The primary threat will be damaging winds, but some hail and an isolated tornado are also possible. Localized flash flooding could also occur. Please keep updated on the forecast and have a way to receive warnings.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for portions of our forecast area until 9 PM. Damaging winds is the primary hazard, but some hail is also possible. Don’t let lightning catch you off guard.

⚡Follow the 30-minute rule: wait at least half an hour after you see lightning or hear thunder before heading back outside.

Rain and storms will accompany a cold front across the area today, with potential for severe storms to develop in the afternoon and evening. Damaging winds are the main threat, though hail and heavy downpours may also occur. Weekend Outlook: Saturday will be drier, then another front arrives on Sunday.

A progressive cold front will cross the region Friday afternoon, triggering another round of thunderstorms as early as late Friday morning. These storms will be capable of producing damaging winds, but a few cells may produce hail. Flash flooding could also occur given slow-moving storms.

A heat advisory has been issued across portions of West Virginia as high temperatures reach the upper 80s and lower 90s. Oppressive humidity will lead to heat index temperatures climbing into the upper 90s to around 100 degrees this afternoon.
