You’re Invited:
America 250th Mural
Ribbon-Cutting Celebration

You are cordially invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of a mural commemorating America’s 250th anniversary and depicting the history of Logan County. Hosted by the City of Logan, the ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

This project was made possible through the support of the West Virginia Department of Tourism, the Logan County Commission, the Hatfield-McCoy Convention and Visitors Bureau, the City of Logan, and The 1910.

In the West Virginia mountains, where coal seams run deep and an astounding work ethic runs even deeper, you will find the heart of our nation and the backbone of America—the Appalachian coal miner.

For decades, Logan County’s coal miners have served our state and nation, working from dusk to dawn. From carving and shoveling coal in underground tunnels to engineering and operating conveyor systems and beyond, their work has powered generations. What began as a way to provide for their families quickly evolved into a generational career, one that has warmed homes, kept the lights on, and earned Southern West Virginia its proud place in history.

As we commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, we pause to honor those who came before us, those who continue to carry forward this legacy of hard work and prosperity, and those yet to come, who will build upon the opportunities created by generations before them.

On behalf of the organizations that lent a helping hand in bringing this project to life, we extend our sincere gratitude to our coal miners for their unwavering determination, leadership, resilience, and dedication.

This mural was painted by artist Tom Acosta. We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Acosta for sharing his time and remarkable talent in bringing this significant work of art to life.
