Logan Town Center is the traditional business and residential neighborhood at the heart of the City of Logan, the county seat of Hocking County. Logan Town Center comprises more than half of the area of the original town of Logan, platted in the summer of 1816 as a personal venture by former U.S. Senator Thomas Worthington, who was then finishing the first of two terms as Ohio's governor. The town was named as a monument to Chief Logan of the Mingo Indians. Chief Logan was the author of Logan's Lament, made most famous by Thomas Jefferson in his Notes on the State of Virginia. Logan was established one mile below the "great falls" of the Hockhocking River, later known as the Hocking River. In 1840 the section of the Hocking Valley Canal passing through Logan (between th City and the Hocking River) was completed, connecting Logan through Lancaster with the Ohio Canal. The Hocking River, once provided a vital asset for industries that extracted the region’s natural resources such as coal, sandstone, iron, timber, oil and gas. Today, the river helps attract over 3 million visitors to the region to relax and enjoy the natural, artistic and cultural assets and rural lifestyle we have to offer visitors and residents. Main Street and the surrounding neighborhoods continue to be the center of business, government, fine historic homes, churches, and cultural and historical destinations in the Hocking Hills region of Ohio. Our Logan Town Center business district is anchored by the Hocking County District Library, the Hocking County Historical Museum, The Bowen House community arts and education center, and City and County government offices. It also provides unique destinations like the Washboard Factory, and friendly locally owned shops, restaurants and family friendly activities. Please note that events are not necessarily being hosted by Logan Town Center Inc., but are being promoted. Box 1053, Logan, Ohio 43138

These two businesses are solid "proof" that working together is how great things happen. What a great experience you will have each time you step into these doors. Great food and full of spirit people and drinks of course. I got to speak with both owners as we had brunch! We are so lucky to have them both into our downtown.

WE WEDNESDAY | Who is WE?

I’ve been thinking lately about how many different people and organizations play a part in making Downtown Logan what it is becoming.

Sometimes it’s easy to look around our community and ask:

“Why don’t they do something about that?”

But who exactly is “they”?

The more I think about it, the more I realize there really isn’t a they.

There is WE.

WE are Logan in Bloom and the volunteers who spend countless hours caring for our flower beds, hanging baskets and landscaping.

Their work has made a tremendous difference in how our downtown looks and feels.

WE are the Hocking Hills Chamber of Commerce, Bobby Smathers and the people there who support our local businesses and organizations and have created a place like the Commerce Collective where people can meet, work, collaborate and exchange ideas.

WE are the City of Logan.

The City may not always get the recognition it deserves, but it has been an important partner in pursuing grants and improvements that are changing the face of our community—from our streetscape to the new Logan arch and the Hocking Hills Hometown gateway.

WE are also Hocking County and our County Commissioners, who have a role in the bigger picture of economic development, infrastructure and the future of our community.

City and county lines may define responsibilities on paper, but the people who live here don't experience our community that way.

What strengthens Downtown Logan strengthens Hocking County—and what strengthens Hocking County creates opportunities for Logan.

Our future works better when WE work together.

WE are the Hocking Hills Tourism Association (HHTA), which understands that the millions of people who visit the Hocking Hills each year don't have to experience our community only from a cabin or a hiking trail.

Downtown Logan can be part of their Hocking Hills experience too, and HHTA has continually supported efforts to make that happen.

WE are the foundations and community organizations that provide funding and resources for projects, often without receiving much attention for what happens behind the scenes.

WE are Downtown Logan, Ohio and the 14 people who serve on our board, volunteering their time because they believe in what downtown Logan can become.

WE are the business owners who continue investing in downtown—not because downtown is always the easiest place to do business, but because we believe there is something here worth building.

And most importantly…

WE are the people who show up.

The people who eat at a downtown restaurant.

Who shop at a downtown business.

Who attend an event.

Who volunteer.

Who plant a flower.

Who clean something up.

Who share a local business's Facebook post.

Who bring a friend downtown.

Who simply choose to care about this place.

Revitalizing Downtown Logan isn't one organization's responsibility.

It isn't DLO's job.

It isn't the City's job.

It isn't the County's job.

It isn't the Chamber's job.

It isn't HHTA's job.

It's OUR job.

And when you stop and look around at all of these people pulling in the same direction, you realize something pretty exciting:

WE are already doing it.

So maybe instead of asking:

“What are THEY going to do?”

We start asking:

“What can WE do next?”

That is what it means to be WE.

What is one small way you've seen WE show up lately?
