🚧 Road closure north of Galveston 🚧

Cass County Highway Department has closed CR 1100S between 1000E and 1100E due to a culvert failure. The closure will be until further notice pending contractor scheduling to replace the structure. Suggested alternate routes on either side of the closure are 1075S or SR 18.

Local residents on 1100S will have access from the east or west, up to the point of closure

Thanks to everyone who prepared, volunteer spotters who rearranged work schedules to be available during daytime hours, and all who reached out to offer assistance to others.

We are fortunate we did not get the line of tornados and other storms that were forecast for our area.

Our neighbors to the south have not been so fortunate tonight. Please keep them in your thoughts.

Weather is dynamic and unpredictable. We do our best to prepare, provide warning and assess after the event. There are many unknowns, information sometimes changes rapidly, and we don’t always have the resources to do all of the things we would like to do in the time we would like to do them.

Thanks to all who continue to support us and the community at large.

If you would like to be more involved in making the system better watch for the next spotter class, Community Emergency Response Team Course, Disaster Volunteer Training, Preparedness Exercise or other opportunity. Depending on your skill set and area of interest there are many ways to play a part.

The more significant severe weather threat has shifted further south, focused in the tornado watch area ( #344) until 1 am ET. Prolonged widespread rain today kept the environment in our area more stable (less conducive for severe). The best threat for severe weather in our area this evening will be in the northern portions of the watch area. Locations near the Michigan State Line will see more of a heavy rain, localized flooding threat. Closer to the watch area there is still an isolated severe threat, but confidence is lower. Down towards Indianapolis, the higher-end threat remains.
